I've been having nausea for two days. No fever, no vomiting, just nausea and some cold sweats. I don't know what it is, but wonder if decreasing prednisone can cause nausea or any other symptoms. Seems like a stretch, but want this to go away. I decreased my prednisone from 5mg to 4mg this week. Am I crazy?

I have had some increased pain & muscle weakness when trying to go down (5mg to 4mg), as well as some cold sweats. You might try going back up a few days till it passes, then try going down again. If it happens a second time, I'd definitely say the decrease was the issue. I've had to stay at 5mg....

So sorry Pat! I have had nausea when I was tapering my pred back in April or May! I know this is not fun. Something that helped with the nauseasness was hot tea with some honey in it. Not sure how or why it helped but it seemed to make it happen in very minimal waves! Hope it doesnt last long!!!

I was starting to wander if you and Lynnwood where doing ok? Hadnt seen either of you around! Hope you ladies had a nice weekend and Labor day :-)

I check in at least twice a day to make sure you are all protected from spammers, that all new members get at least one response, and the the forums DO's and DON'Ts are being followed.

I've had some hip/knee issues, unrelated to lupus, that have slowed me down and ruined my mood; I hate to post when I know I might accidentally "go off" on someone.

Patty, I have also had some nausea when trying to decrease prednisone, especially if I did it too fast. On top of the nausea I also just felt kind of flu-ish. How fast are you tapering? Hopefully this won't last long. I am praying I can taper down my prednisone and eventually get off of it if my mtx works well for me.

It was good to have this confirmed by you guys. I do feel like I have the flu, but I know I don't. I felt like I had fever yesterday so took my temp. It was 97.4. Pudding helps the nausea -- nothing non fattening, of course.

Lynnwood, I think I'll take 4 1/2 mg today. I'm going to see if I can stick this out even if I have to feel like s%#@ for a few days. The thought of staying on this for the rest of my life is almost more than I can bear. Hippi, I just went from 5 to 4 four days ago. My stepson the pharmacist, and my hubby, who does some malpractice law so knows a lot of medicine, both tell me that because I've been taking prednisone for 5 years my adrenal gland is dead. I hope they are wrong. Lynn, you must not believe that or you wouldn't try to taper from 5 to 4 yourself. BTW, so sorry about your knees and hips. Is it arthritis?

Aimsgirl, I've been around. Just fighting this battle --- just like you guys. Very tiresome. Most frustrating is that I have a stress fracture in my right foot. The third in the past few years. My podiatrist refuses to repair my bunion because he doesn't think my bones will heal quickly, and I believe the stress fractures are caused by a combination of weak bones (osteopenia) and the bunion. And the boot I'm wearing on that foot causes my knees and hips to hurt and puts me in an awful mood. I hear what you're saying Lynnwood.

I'll keep you guys updated on the prednisone issue and thanks for listening. You are all wonderful.

Not arthritis for me - I apparently pulled ligaments & tendons (almost to the point of a hernia) on my right leg. So far they don't think it has anything to due with lupus or fibro. Random shooting pains (10+) thru hip when walking, constant soreness & pain when walking in knee, all enough to limit my walking to "in the house". UGH

There are 2 ways to see if the adrenals are "dead" - one is the trial & error way of adjusting prednisone and seeing what happens. That I'm doing under the direction of my dr (remember, don't mess with pred without dr guidance, stopping it too quickly can literally kill you).

The second way is to have a cortisone "uptake test" (I think that's what they call it) from an endocrinologist. I didn't do this because of an insurance 'wrinkle', but when ins. straightens out I plan to do this. I think it may be an all-day test, but I'd like to know for sure and not live for years doing trial-n-error trying to get off of pred.

I tried the 4mg for about 2 wks....just kept feeling worse and worse...with immediate improvement when I went back to 5mg. Sigh.

Hi Pat, maybe it is a reaction to not having enough Pred in your system?  I hope it goes away quickly for you too.  Nausea is so hard to tolerate.  (((((hugs)))))

Hi, I have another question. I may have Lupus...actually they think i do. My question is.... How do you know the pain of Lupus. What is the difference between that and RA or Fibro?
