Is it dangerous to drink alcohol with Lupus and taking Meds for it?

It is something you will need to discuss with your doctor. There are some meds in the past where I could not drink at all and now with the meds I am on i can drink moderatly. It really depends on your medications and what your doctor says!

Most of our medications are NOT safe with alcohol. A good drug/med/food interaction site is www.drugstore.com/pharmacy/drugchecker/default.asp

While I've seen no specific "Do not drink with lupus" warnings, it's fairly well known that drinking lowers your immune system, making you more susceptible to illness. Since our doctors are carefully mapping our symptoms vs. their prescriptions, and since some of our meds are designed specifically to manage the immune system, it seems pretty clear to me that the recommendation is "DO NOT DRINK". (Or don't drink very much at all :-))

If you do decide to drink, please make sure to let your drs know about it -- they need to know about what's going into your system to make the best diagnosis/treatment plan for you. This also applies to changes in food habits, vitamins, supplements, etc.

Definitely talk to your doc about it. Like Lynnwood said, most of our meds come with a warning not to drink alcohol with them.

Thank you all for the grate advice. The diagnosis is new to me and I am trying to learn as much as I can.
