Methotrexate and infection

Hi, I have been flaring for the last couple of weeks, and it has been horrible.

Last weekend I started sneezing, feeling a sore throat and coughing up green phlegm.

I saw my PCP today and was put on an antibiotic Spectracef 400 mg 2x daily for 10 days.

I also take Methotrexate so I know my body is immunosupressed. This is the first time

I have had an infection since I have been on the MTX. I'm worried about the antibiotic

because the one I am taking is supposed to kill all the bacteria including the good

bacteria. Just wondering how my digestive system will be being on this med?

Has anyone been on MTX with an infection or taken Spectracef?

Robin, check with your rheumy about being on mtx and an antibiotic at the same time. I was told you should stop taking mtx if I had to be on an antibiotic. Definitely call your rheumy to find out and let him know you have an infection. Take care

Thanks Hippi, I wiil call my rheumy and ask . I took my weekly dose of MTX Monday
evening and I started the antibiotic on Wednesday. So far I haven't had any strange
digestive problems from this med. Hoping for my flare and this infection to be gone!

Hi Robin, my rheumy told me to skip a dose of MTX if I was running a fever, but I think calling them would be a good idea.

It seems a lot of us are flaring right now, I hope you get to feeling better real soon! Take care
