is there anyone else out there with one kidney and lupus?!

I have 2 kidneys, but I wanted to welcome you to the forum.  Are you having kidney involvement with lupus? Born with one kidney? 

I have kidney involvement with lupus, as do others on the forum. Not sure if anyone has one kidney, though.                 

 

Hello. I have one kidney. I lost the use of the other kidney two years ago. I have systemic lupus with , liver, kidney, gastro, lung and upper resperatory involvement. I am 72 and have had this problem for as long as I can remember. I also have two caring Drs. take as little meds as posible, and have the support of my Church. I t helps to have thsese things in your life. I think the hardest thing about lupus is accepting the fact that you have lupus. I do not drink alcohol, smoke or take anycaffine. Lupus throws many challenges out, I am not always this calm about lupus and what it can do, I think that I am accepting it and that there is no cure. I thought there was and when I finally after many years received a definitive diagnosis I really pitched a hissy fit I guess the recent flare that I went through forced me to accept the reality. Life is much better now. I am still in a mild flare but my urologist had a long visit with me and explained to me that you can live with lupus. Also you can live with reduced kidney function I know from experience that is true. I hope that you have the support that I have found with my Physicians and my Faith. wow, it is a huge burdon lifted that I am not the only one out there with one kidney. I have had lupus for 12 years before it got treated because the only symptom i had was hives and the doctors would tell me i needed alergy testing but i never got it. I feel so blessed to have been able to go 12 years with out treatment and to have my kidney still going. Im trying to get all the support that i can but no one in my family seems to understand how hard and painful it is.
I have a 18 month old daughter who is going threw those terrible twos hahaha, with a flair up and her dad not living here because of the military it is even more hard. I think im just putting my faith in god and knowing that everything happens for a reason.
Anyone with lupus is a strong person for living with the disease and staying stong, it says alot about what kind of people we are.
Someone once told me all the bad crap happens to good people, so i try looking at it that way and try to take it as a compliment, i know its kinda weird haha.
