Do I have LYME or LUPUS? I don't know what to do. HELP.

Please help me understand my lab results.

I have a positive ANA (homogenous pattern).

Elevated SEDRATE.

Positive LYME (by ELISA).

Positive EBV-convalescent stage.

Can I have LYME and LUPUS and MONO?

I have been sick for at least the last 5 years. The past 4 months have been the worst. My GP said it was Fibromyalgia and put me on Pristique w/o ever testing me- this was back in AUG 09. I am getting worse. Fever all the time 99.6 to 102. SOOOO TIRED. I can barely take care of my three kids. I have lost >20 lbs...down to 107 now. No appetite. Numb toes,fingers. Joint pain. Weak and painful muscles. The list goes on. I feel like I'm going crazy. I am depressed too. Please help me. I don't trust my GP to know what to do. Do I need a rheumatologist or an infectious disease doctor or both. What do you all think. You live with Lupus. You are more the expects.

Please help.

I recommend seeing a rhuematologist - those are the guys to see when you have a positive ANA - they deal with autoimmune issues.

One of the best ways to find a good one is to check www.lupus.org to find the local chapter. Then contact the local chapter - the doctors who are on their board or who work with them in some way are the guys you want to pick from. The chapter will not give you a recommendation for one over the others, but if you go to a support meeting in your area you can talk to other patients and get some recommendations/ideas from them.

Hi Cass, welcome to the forum. (((( Hugs )))))) I am sorry you are so sick, it sounds like you definitely need to see a rhuemy, ASAP! Lynnwood is right, check out your local Lupus chapter and see if you can find a doc that way. I pray you find some relief soon, we've all been where you're at and it's not fun. Just stay on top of things and take charge of your health, which is sounds like you are already doing. Take care and please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hi Cass! I agree with Stacie and Lynnwood, try to see a rhuemy as quick as you can! Welcome to HW and I wanted to tell you I really like your SN...labrat. LOL! I can relate to that so much!!!!

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you really need a support group. Lynnwood's right -- you should get an appointment with a good rheumatologist as soon as possible. Personally, I'd get a new gp - preferably an internal medicine specialist to be your primary care doctor (pcp). Your gp sounds negligent to me if he didn't refer you to a rheumy, considering your lab results and symptoms.

Stick around and let us know how you do and if you're able to get in with a rheumy soon.

Hang in there. Hopefully a rheumy will get you back on track.

I'm not a very literate computer person and this is my first forum experience. Thank you for your support. I look forward to learning from you all. I'm sorry that you all are suffering but you sound like you are a strong and supportive group of people.

I would also see a lyme specialist if I were you with a positive lyme test. Lupus and lyme can co-exisit and I think once you have mono you carry the antibodies and thus test positive but I cannot be sure. I would say yes you could have all three at once but that it would be rare. But I am not a medical professional so I just don't know for sure. Make sure any rheumy you see is a lupus expert not all are.
