Has anyone ever moved to a different climate and found relief from their aches and pains?? Is California good or the dry, warm climates like Nevada and Arizona? Thanks! I live in the south and every time we get rain, I am in pain and that is very often!!!! I can be fine in the am and when the thunder boomers in the pm come in, I am miserable. It's frustrating!!! Maybe when my meds kick in, it won't be like this. Sigh......

I lived in arizona for 25 years. I had breathing problems there but when I moved to oklahoma I started getting Lupus symptoms within the first 3 months. I can't afford to move back to arizona or I would.

I think that dry climates with low humidity are the best. But the reason is probably not what you think. These areas have less change in barometric pressure than the midwest or south and that is what causes our joint pains.
Most of CA is dry and low humidity because it is also a desert, just not as extreme as AZ, NM, or NV.
If you are thinking about moving to AZ make sure you bring your passport and birth certificate!

Hum. I don't know -- but when I visited Santa Fe I felt better than I had in a while -- normally I'm in the southeast, northeast or sometimes northwest...

My family lives in arizona, if I could afford it I'd live there in a heart beat. I'm indian though so they won't give me a passport. They just stick me on a reservation.

I have visted Costa Rica 2 times in 3 years. I will go for a week to a week and half and by the time I come back, i have no joint pain and no symptoms (this was before kidney problems) I usually can stop taking pain medicine by the 3rd day I am there. I have no idea why this happens. People say its cause I am on vacation, which I don't think so because I am generally more active there going to the beaches (heavily protected w/ SPF) volcanoes, zip glides and things like that. I am moving non stop with less sleep than normal. So yes I believe the climate affects how you feel!

I just googled barometric pressure and read that at higher elevations, there is less pressure. Also they said many have a problem with the change in pressure when fronts come through. I guess that explains why I am miserable, I live in the south where it rains so much. I may be getting laid off so a change in location might be in line for us. The weather here can be very unstable.
It surprises me a little that Costa Rica was a good place because it is tropical. Go figure.

My DH and I visited HA for two weeks about 3 years ago. I felt better than anytime else. I think my rheumy should write me a prescription that says I should live in HA permanently!!

Hey Fran, I think you just might have something there! What would be even better is if SSD paid tripled your benefits because of the cost of living there.

Hawaii sounds like a great idea, so does Costa Rica!!! Perhaps we all just feel better on vacation period.....Those two places have really low pollution too from what I hear, perhaps that plays into it. They both are fairly humid, right, and they get thunderstorms and rain..... Thanks for posting responses everyone.

Actually, 6 months out of the year Costa Rica gets rain every day and 6 months out of the year, it doesnt get any rain. I have been during both and both times I was pretty much pain free. The polution, I am not too sure about, i guess it depends on where you go. Most of the vehicles are diesel and any where near the road, its stinky but closer to the beach where it is less traveled, its very nice :)!
Wouldnt that be great if we get get a prescription to live where we feel the best!!! LOL

Low pollution! Better air! I'd say how I feel has a higher correlation with that than most anything else except the amount of sleep I get...

Yea, I keep saying I want to move to a foreign country for the health care and retirement anyway. I saw a show on International House Hunters of places in Bali, Indonesia and it was so beautiful.....!! I am not sure I am ready for that amount of culture shock permanently but it sure did look beautiful. I'd move to Hawaii in a minute though, if my hubby would. We'd probably have to live in a shack there, but that's ok by me.

I live in the south also. Everytime a front moves in, I start the aching and fatigue. Increasing Celebrex helps me.

Lucky me, I am allergic to Celebrex!! I cant take motrin, advil, aspirin b/c of the GI stuff. Yea, today it is clear and sunny and no joint pain.
