She just got out of surgery. The surgery they did on her foot was a botched job. The pin broke in the bone. (i'm not real good with explaining sorry). Anyway the next 2 months she is not allowed to be on her feet! That is going to kill her. I called her today just as she got out of surgery and she didn't appear to be too alert so I'm sure it will take her a few days to get around to the board. But I know she'd appreciate hearing from you.

Patty you take care and do what the doctor says. I know your daughters wedding is coming and it isn't how you wanted to spend the summer but hey look at the bright side. Breakfast in bed! bon bon's! Should I send you my porta potty? or is hubby just gonna scoop ya up in his arms? idea . Just don't do anything you shouldn't do even if you feel like you can. Hey how often do you get a chance like this?

Patty Lady, listen to the doctors and hopefully it will heal properly this time. We know you listened last time and it didn't but if you don't do what they say then it definately won't heal right and that will add to your pain and recovery time. No one likes being told they can't do stuff but consider this a chance to catch up on your reading.

Pat, I'm sorry that you had to go through another surgery. Hope your recovery is
a speedy one. Sending prayers and gentle hugs!

OH NO Pat! I am so sorry! I was hoping you wouldnt have any more big problems after the surgery! Please know we are thinking and praying for you!!!

Will you have a wheelchair or crutches you will be able to use off and on?

Thanks, guys, for your kind words. I'm kind of in and out, so if this makes no sense, you'll know I'm out. BTW, the last surgery wasn't botched....my foot didn't heal. So the doc took another bone from my heel and a manmade product, mixed them together, and used that to fuse the 2 bones. He's optimistic. I'm hopeful.

Sorry Pat botched sounded better to me. It must be the deep seeded love and admiration I have for doctors these days. turn My nurse just left after doing the second blood draw in a month. after my internist today and rheumy yesterday. But anyway you sounded better on the phone today. remember to save them grapes for hubby!

I hope your foots on the mend now Patty and it heals fast. The same thing happened to both my mom and my aunt and I'm beginning to wonder if any of these docs can set the ankles. I know its really painful and I hope you are getting relief and being spoiled so it heals soon. The good news with my mom and aunt is that once they fixed it right, it did heal pretty fast, compared to before. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Day 3....as long as I can keep the pain under control, I'm doing fine. My lupus is quiet and since I knew what to expect this time, I built a little nest for myself and have a drawer full of food, baskets full of yarn and knitting patterns, and another one for needles, my laptop, and reading material. I mean, what else does a girl need?

Just like the last time, I've been provided with a cart to help me get around. It has three wheels, a bench to rest my leg on, and handles to guide it, plus I use my good leg & foot to drive it. The only real difficulty is standing up on one leg but if I remember correctly, it will get easier.

I'm doing exactly what the surgeon told me to do, just as I did after the December surgery. In fact, I'm probably being better than most and not getting out of bed except to get to the bathroom.

Marji, it isn't my ankle, but a bunion that was rotated when I was hit side on by a big truck on a rainy day a year ago. The bone that the removed from my heal to graft onto my big toe is what didn't successfully fuse. The surgeon gave me the three screws he had put in during the first surgery. OMG, he must have gone to the hardware store to find them.

This time he won't use screws. He took more bone from my heel and after putting it in place, put a metal plate over the whole thing. As long as I can get through security gates at airports, they can put anything in there that they want.

I'll be allowed to walk with a surgical boot in two months, which is a couple of weeks before my daughter's wedding. Don't guess I'll be doing any dancing.

Hey Pat! Thanks for the update, glad you had prepared yourself for this. You were so prepared! Now that it has been a few days, how are you doing? Will you get a chance to meet with your knitting group soon or do you have to stay home for a few weeks? Well, know we are praying for you and look forward to hearing how you are doing!

Amy, I'll be in bed except for showers and doctors' appointments for two months. But some of my knitting friends are coming over here to knit with me. I'm pretty tired of staying in bed but am feeling ok & pain is much better.
