Hi Redrose,
Great topic!
When I was spending most of my day with my feet up in a recliner . . . I started crocheting, which led to making lace edging for hand towels. That year (about 4 years ago?) my Christmas gifts were beautiful. I had spent about $1 per towel at an outlet store and a couple dollars on the cotton crochet thread. I made 20 beautiful towels (pictures of some very well worn ones below - if they show up). One thing led to another and I started knitting. I called these my "recliner sports" and I am now happily knitting lace shawls, socks and whimsical things. PattyLatty introduced me to Ravelry.com . . . a community who shares the love of all things knit and crocheted. . . so lots of help with any techniques and a huge selection of patterns (some free and some not).
I'm not sure the picture links will work . . . but I'll try!
So . . . I'm feeling really well these days . . .but I'm still addicted to my knitting time each day. I also listen to books on tape. I go to the library and get all my books for free. I can even go online and search the library data base to borrow books from other libraries and they transport them to my local branch and email me when they arrive. I listen to about 5 books per week because I can listen while I knit, do housework, cook, drive, etc.
I also visit a nearby Senior Center (where my mom is active) and help out a little there.
I'm still not able to do much outdoor stuff. I used to garden, but I find it exhausting . . . so I'm pretty careful how much time I'll spend doing those types of activities. I'm once again able to do short hikes at a slow pace, which I really enjoy. Blessings!
