Imuran and weight effects

Hey Everyone... I am new to the site, but I've read some things on here before and always enjoy reading everyone's experiences; which many times have been my own and have been very helpful to me. So I thought it was time for me to contribute some of my own as well as start interacting with people that know what its like living with lupus. I am going on 2.5 years with my diagnosis. I am a fresh 25 year old female (just turned 5 days ago) and have had many ups and downs with this illness. I also have psoriasis :-(, its under control but it is hard to cope with. Although my psoriasis is mild with i am grateful for it still makes me stressed. I went from a super healthy 21 year old to a now struggling 25 year old in a matter of days sort of say. Any how about my topic... I have recently gone to see a new rheumatologist in the NYU Hospital for Joint Disease in nyc. I am very excited about the new doctor, they are very involved and listen to all your concerns and use your input in the treatment. I am currently on Plaquenil 400mg daily and also use Naproxen 500mg daily for inflammation. My inflammation in my hands has been increasingly painful the past three months. My DR. has brought up a new medication idea and I wanted to get some input if anyone here has had any results with or any side effects or concerns or the medication Imuran. I am mainly concerned about weight gain. I have researched and none of the side effects say weight gain but neither did the ones from Methotriexate but have read many testimonials that say they have had many weight gain from Methotriexate.... Please let me know if anyone has had any experience with Imuran.... Thank you!

I used Imuran at the highest dose for 2 years and had no weight gain. It didnt help at all but I hear it works great for many people! Good luck with it and to be 100% honest, don't worry about the weight gain, i know you are young...I am 23 myself. Your biggest concern should be keeping or getting your lupus in control and laying low. If you do gain weight, once your lupus quits down then you can work on the weight loss. I gained 80 pds from medicine but if it wasnt for prednisone, I would be dead right now. Yeah, the weight stinks but i think I would rather be alive than the alternative on most days.
