The puffy eyes started with me when my kidneys weren't working so good from the lupus damage. Do you have abnormalities in your complement levels on blood tests, or low albumin levels? High BUN levels, or anything else unusual relating to kidney function? Lupus is a know cause of kidney failure in some people, over time. The weight loss can be caused by albumin loss through the urine you excrete when kidneys are damaged and cannot keep in the good fats in your blood. I do not want to alarm you, just ask your doctor to be sure you are informed. I also know that using flax oil capsules daily was shown in studies to protect kidneys from lupus damage, so I recommend that. Keep them in the fridge for freshness, too. If I get the puffy eyes, I use a little wand massager and one of the attachments that has an edge on it and run it under my eyes and it seems to massage the extra fluid out of that area. Nothing else works. I just had a kidney transplant, so it doesn't get as bad. The only real help I ever got for lupus was the antibiotic protocol for rheumatic disease, discovered by Dr. Brown, a rheumatologist, about 50-60 years ago. You can read about it in a book called The New Arthritis Breakthrough, by Henry Scammell, found online, at bookstores, or some libraries. Or go to RoadBack.org for more info on this treatment, or to find a doctor that is familiar with it. I was already too far gone when I was diagnosed, as I did not have access to medical care or diagnosis in time, but it did give me a couple of really good years that I was thankful for.
