I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2001 and recently just got a full work up of labs done and was wondering if someone could help me interpret the results.

My Antinuclear Antibodies was 1:2560 - 1:10240. Is that considered high or low? Also my ANA Pattern was Homogeneous

ANA low positive = 1:32 as the number goes up, the ANA is higher, so 1:10240 is higher than 1:2560

So since my range was 100: 1:2560 - 1:10240 does that mean my lupus is more active?

LOL. Unfortunately, there isn't that much predictability with Lupus. You'd think it'd mean more activity but that doesn't always hold true.

Hi hun I don't know where your from. I know different clinics have different ratings. I don't beleive my lab goes over 2560. My ANA stays between 1260 and 2580 weather I feel good or not.

I've always seen them rating multiplied by two.

like40x2=80

80x 2=160

160x2=320

320x2=640

640x2=1280

1280x2=2560.

If I try to go higher I'll have to take my shoes off and count with my toes. smilewinkgrin

I find that when my numbers begin going up my disease process increases.....so, although not a Rheumy or MD...I disagree with the issue of ANA meaning disease activity....or perhaps like all things with Lupus it is either coincidence or just something individual.

There are some things I have found when researching information on Lupus that I don't agree with. Often with regard to nasal or mouth sores they state they are not painful.....NONSENSE! lol They are after all nerves exposed and therefore would be sensitive to touch...hot and cold, etc.,

I think since Lupus has been somewhat "ignored" in the field of research that there are some "facts" out there that are not consistent and therefore confusing to those newly diagnosed.

I have looked up skin problems associated with Lupus, for example, and some say the Lupus rash will itch and some say it doesn't itch. Hard to know then if your health issue is related.

from what my doctors have told me, when you have a positive ANA its basically saying that yes you have lupus & if you are in a flare or not... But most times my doc does complements to determine how active my lupus is.

I can say right now since I am in a flare, my rash didnt itch at all but the more it gets worse it is starting to itch...
I loook like a strawberry.. lol

I'm sorry you are going through a Lupus Flare. Hope you are staying strong and positive and getting plenty of rest! Wishing you a speedy recovery :)
