Forgive me for one more test question

Had my dermatologist fax my records to me for the lab work recently done. My ANA was positive but my IFA was negative. I have been googling and I cannot find out what the IFA is testing for. Is it unusual to have one positive and one negative and I am wanting to know what it may mean? I know none of the lab work is definitive but curious what these two opposite results may tell. You are all so educated about this..so thank you very much in advance.

www.labtestsonline.org is a great place to look up some of these crazy tests they run on us.

From what it says: "Two tests are typically used to detect and confirm Lyme disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that an ELISA or IFA test method be used first to measure B. burgdorferi IgM and/or IgG antibodies." -- my guess is the dermo tested you for Lyme Disease. And it showed up negative.

I don't know much about Lyme Disease, so I don't know if the blood test is definitive or if it might be one of several things used to diagnose Lyme.

Thank you again Lynnwood. It does not mention anything about Lyme. I also tested positive for Sjogrens (Anti SSB) and from what I am learning it is not unusual to have the two together. Is this correct? All so very confusing.  Thanks for your help.

Offhand, I can't think of anyone here diagnosed with both Lupus and Lymes, so I don't know how much help we can be with that. Sorry.

Yes, Sjogrens quite often appears secondary to Lupus. We have a relatively new forum for that at www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=12
