Hello!,
After going through three boxes of kleenex in less than two days... I have a question. The pharmacist had told me to be very careful of not catching a cold. I have sanitizer with me everywhere I go but I still have managed to pick up a cold. I was told to go in to emerg since my body would not be able to fight it off with the medication I am on (prednisone 10mg, hydroxycholoroquine 200mg and Naproxen 500mg twice a day). Is this really the case? It is just a cold...I do feel terrible but I feel like after a few days of sleep I should be fine! This is my first time dealing with this lol help!

Everyone is different - that said, I was on similar meds last couple of times I had a cold. In one case it was gone after 5 days, no big deal. In the other case it lasted longer and turned into bronchitis without me noticing.

My advice? Keep a bit more of a watch on it that you would have done pre-lupus. If it seems to be worsening or lasting more than 5 days please see your doctor ASAP. Things do slip in under the radar (unannounced) when we have these meds on board.

It also matters what your general health level is -- if you have a lot of lupus activity get thee to a Dr sooner, but if you are generally in good shape the dire warnings may be a bit of overkill.

Hope that makes sense -- the warnings are real, but general health tells you just how watchful you need to be....

I do not have the lupus under control. My internal specialist just referred me to a rhuematologist after not being able to get my symptoms straightened out with text book meds(March). I guess that is why I am nervous. :S I have been flaring pretty bad and new to lupus (since December). I was on 20mg pred. but he has lowered my dosage but after talking to him on Monday I am to start back on the 20mg.
After five days if it doesn't seem to clear up I will get checked out. I am to see my specialist (not the rhuem.) on the 8th anyways.. :)
