While i have been appealing the decision for denial of LTD from my private insurance company I have also been applying for Social Security Disability. I filled out the initial paperwork and today I got three different packets to fill out. One if for additional medical information, one is for me to explain in detail what I did on my job and the last one is for my husband to fill out on how my disability impacts our lives.

Has anyone done this before and have any helpful tips. They only gave me 10 calendar days to get it all filled out and returned to them. this is going to be hectic because i have two doctor appointments next week, a court date, and paperwork to do in a last ditch effort to modify the loan on our home so we don't lose it. Now I have all this to add to the mix.

I need to clone myself. I think I have been just as busy doing paperwork since I stopped working as I was when I was working. Totally stresses me out and makes me a nervous wreck.

Going to enjoy the weekend and then gear up for the week to get all this done.

Yes! The first few months after diagnosis was so crazy for me - dealing with private LTD & SS took more time & energy than my beloved career, and just when I had so much LESS time & energy!

Get people to help you as much as possible, and just go slow and steady, putting one foot in front of the other and don't let yourself get distracted or panicked. This too will pass.

I know the paperwork you speak of. Yup, looks rather terrifying and what rattled me was when I listed what I USED to do on my job compared to what I do now, whoa. yup depressing. I'm not gonna lie to you and say it's all easy, it's not, but just take a deep breath gather yourself and just go. As for your husband doing his part, my best advice is for him not to sugar coat it. If you cannot do daily chores, by all means have him write it down.
I realize the SS office is trying to create a timeline of your work history and how you are now. It's annoying but it must be done. Before you send everything off to the office, make a copy, someone may call you later and go over all of your history you put down to verify.
What kind of helped me get through it was I looked at it as a weird type of work history/resume.
There is a method to all of their madness. Somewhere...

What I will suggest is make a copy of the form to make a sloppy copy first, write on that one and then transfer your answers. That way if you make a mistake, or want to modify what you wrote it will be neat. I know this is more work, but worth it in the end. Also, you got good advice by keeping a copy of what you do send for yourself, that way if you get a call and they want to go over anything, you have it in writing before you.

I know it seems overwhelming, and is bad timing for you, I feel for you, but it is all part of their little game, and the more detailed information you give them, the better off you are. And answer each question thinking of your worse day or worse case scenario and ask hubby to do the same. Don't sugar coat anything, always answer what the worse day, worse pain, least amount you can do is.

Best of luck to you on this and everything else you have going on. I hope in the end, it all works out for you.
