I've got my appointment, now give me information on what they do.
It says it's for a General Medical Exam & Physical Exam. How extensive will it be?

about
like going to your regular doctor...they didn't do anything my rheumy hadn't done. Measure weight, BP, etc. Check strength in hands, hit knees with funny hammer, ask some questions...squeeze here & there...regular stuff.

I found out he's a 45 years experienced doctor who does nothing but pilot, job, and SSD exams.
I hope he understands Lupus and Fibro.

They sent me to 1) a general dr, 2) a rheumy, and 3) a shrink. None of them was very in depth. If you can, check out the info on your illness (lupus & fibro) in the ssd documents online and see what kinds of things they are interested in.

I went to a medical doctor and a psychiatrist. The medical doctor did just like Lynn said. Just general stuff. He had the information I had supplied to SSD and he kind of went over it. He tested my reflexes and made me walk back and forth across the room. He made me walk a straight line, which I couldn't do without falling. My husband had to catch me.
I wouldn't worry too much about
it. Just be honest about
how you feel. I made sure that he knew how I felt on a bad day and impressed upon him how I never know when those days are coming.
Hope this helps some.

I got the paperwork today that is sending me also to a Pulmonary Function test at a hospital.
They are taking Arterial Blood gases also. Yikes! I hope they will numb me before stabbing me with that needle, because it's a large bore needle.
I have issues with big needles anyway.

I had blood gases taken one time and was terrified of it. Actually it didn't end up being as bad as I thought it would be. My mom had told me the pain was worse than labor. LOL. But it wasn't.
The good thing is it only takes a few minutes and the whole procedure is done.
Good luck with all your visits fo SSD. I will keep you in my prayers.

Thanks, Mary Ann.
I'm trying to stay calm and not freak about
the visits. I'm scared he's going to be one of those doctors who doesn't believe in Fibro and Lupus.

Just thought to let you know that when I was done with all the testing with the SSD doctors I called and asked for copies of their notes. It was really interesting to see what they said about
me.
Some of it was insulting to me but they both felt that I couldn't work anymore and said so. I'm sure that is why my SSD was approved with no hassle.
Hang in there and keep positive.

Did you ask the doctor for the notes or SS?

Hi Joy,
I called SS and asked them. They were very nice and had them mailed to me the next day. I waited about
a month or so before I called. I wanted to give the doctors time to get them turned in.

My visit to SSD dr. was very brief but my Disability claim was for other conditions. You should move thru your claim pretty easy. Just try not to worry about
it and be honest with your cond. I would also consider taking notes that will help you.
Good luck and I will be looking to read to see how it went for you!

The Thursday visit went okay. He doesn't believe a person with Lupus can have fibro too.
He also wondered why I wasn't already on MTX. I just told him my rhuemy was waiting until I was worse.
Tuesday is the pulmonary testing. (fingers crossed)
I hope they don't discover Shrinking Lung Disease. That's a possiblity with having both lupus and severe asthma.
