Do fluorescent lights bother anyone? I sit right under them and they seem to take every once of energy out of me by the end of the work week. I also work in front of a computer monitor all day. I have heard there is a cover that can be put over the monitor and the lights, but I need specifics, has anyone done this? Thanks!

Yes, fluorescents seem to bother most of us. They say almost any kind of cover over the fluorescents helps, but some places (big box stores) have them high up without covers. Usually they are covered in offices.
Some people have been able to work with the employer to turn off fluorescent lighting and bring in a more traditional incandescent desk or floor lamp.
As for computer monitors, just search for "monitor cover" or monitor glare or something along those lines. You'll need something different if you have a traditional CRT monitor or a new flatscreen monitor...also have to order to size usually.
Meanwhile, a hat, tinted glasses or sunglasses, and long sleeves may help a bit.
Good luck,

sunscreen may help some as well. I know it sounds silly but it is uv in the florecent lights that is draining your energy so blocking as much of it as possible is best.

I'm the weirdo in the group, but it may have to do with my eye surgury. I have the opposite. Incandescent lights make me ill, but I can tolerate the fluorescent lights used in fish tanks fine. My son raises fish and we have thirty tanks, so the house is lit with them. Most of the aquarium bulbs we have have a higher blue actinic light and cast a violet tinted light, which I think is more soothing than the yellow-red of daylight bulbs used in offices. And most of the aquarium lights have more actinic light to satisfy the needs of deepwater fish. Some of the daylight bulbs pretty accurately reproduce sunlight so that is probably the problem. I have problems with my eyes with any bright light, and get sick from most bright light of any kind. I can't tolerate the sun through the blinds even. I like the dark. I get really sick to my stomach otherwise.

I used to get migraines from fluorescent lights, now with my new glasses that have UV block, glare block, and transition lenses as well as being on Topamax for migraines, that's no longer a problem. The prblem now is that I get skin tingles. It's not like being in te sun where I fees llike I'm gettng a mild sunburn, even with SPF 70 and I'm not getting a sunbun. This is mre like a weird tingling sensation, mild pin pricks. My ld pain mgmnt clinic used to make me wait two hoursnder those awful lights which is why I changed clinics. My new Rheumy at th Emory clinic actually uses incandescent lighting in the waitinrooms and exam rooms, cool huh?

Wow, I thought I was the only one strange enough to be bothered by them. I go to the grocery and by the time I'm done shopping, I feel exhausted and I can hardly see. My family look at me like I'm crazy but they mess me up.

I had vertigo all the time and pain in my left ear. Plaquenil has changed everything. I think it had to do with Flourescent lights. I was recently in a store and noticed that the air was moving and I became sick and dizzy. My husband said that there were flourescent lights and ceiling fans moving underneath them. After leaving the area all was well.

Welcome, greengal.
Anything that emmits uv rays will affect us.
Sunlight
tanning beds
Certain tv or monitor screens (LED light is the best)
Halogen
CF bulbs
Fluorescent lighting
My bedroom has LED lights in it. I refuse to use CF bulbs anywhere in my house. I even have some issues with 3 way bulbs (not sure why).

Florescent lights emits some uvs..maybe this is causing you problems. I hate them too. I work in my lab in the dark lol. Just the outside light comes in, but in the winter I have to turn them on cause it's dark at 4PM !
