Help!!! 8yr old and pain

Guys this is not a lupus question but I wanted your opinion since you have been so helpful. For the last year almost my 8 yr old has been have migraines off and on with sometimes 3 months in between episodes and he has been have really bad leg pains that are localized to only the right leg between the knee and foot. His PCP kept saying growing pains but it is getting worse and he is not getting any taller or bigger. Last night I had to take him to the ER because he was screaming and crying that it felt like someone was crushing his bone. The ER doc took blood and did an xray and everything came back normal. His leg was slightly swollen. They released us as soon as he was able to walk and put pressure on leg again and told me to get an appointment with the pain medicine clinic. But they do not think it is growing pain. They ruled out infection, bone cancer, etc.

I am so worried as there are a number of auto-immune issues that run in my family and on his dad side a blood disease that affect bones. He goes to see his PCP on Thursday and I am going to ask for more test. There is something going on.

Sorry to hear that he's hurting so much.

I had growing pains from the age of 7 and my mom has told stories of me waking up in the middle of the night screaming and crying I hurt so bad. I was always told to "get over it" and whatnot. I can remember how I felt when no one listened to me and told it was just growing pains you'll grow out of it, Grrrr.

I was wondering if you could get him in to see a pediatric Rheumatologist?

I will ask his PCP to send us to pediatric Rheumy. He is scheduled to go to Children's Hospital Pain Medicine Clinic on Friday.

Thank you all for your responses. We went to see PCD and we agreed there needed to be more testing and she is running the test for ANA and all the auto-immune stuff. She said that if anything comes back abnormal we are going to a pediatric rheumy. I was so happy to hear her say this. We were both on the same page. He is going to the pain medicine clinic tomorrow at Children's hospital so we will see from there.

What gets me is that he will be in so much pain with his leg and migraines one day and the next day he is up running around and being a kids.
