I have been fighting a respiratory virus for weeks. First one started in early January. Saw doc and a short course of Pred with mucinex (can't take decongestants) seemed to take care of it. Then just as I was feeling over it and resuming activity, I got clobbered with influenza, which started in my lungs and crawled back up to my sinuses (not usually the direction things take). Now on my 3rd short course of Pred, and second round of ABX because I just can't kick the darn thing out of my life. I have another day to feel better or I have to get a Chest xray to rule out pneumonia.
I know a correlation doesn't exactly indicate cause - but wondering if my attempt at reducing my Plaquenil, which I started doing in mid November could be responsible? I have only had an infection once since starting Plaq about
5 yrs ago, and it sure didn't hang around this long. I started back on the full dose, and will see what the Rheumy says next month - just wondering if anyone has had similar experience? Hindsight tells me that attempting this pre flu season may not have been my best idea. But rheumy thought it would be okay.....
Didn't know it was going to be the winter from you know where.....
Thanks,
Lucy

That's why I'm worried about
reducing my plaquenil. I'm afraid that would happen to me...

Hi Sushma - how long ago did you reduce your dose? I tried this once before in 2010 - unsuccessfully, as well. First thing I noticed was a little increased fatigue, and then things really snowballed into a nasty flare after about
5-6 weeks of the reduced dose. The time frame was similar with this recent attempt, but I'm still not sure I should blame the flu/extended sickness on the reduced dose -might have happened anyway. But I am back on the twice a day dose again, anyway.
You didn't say why you decided to reduce. I was feeling more stable than ever and thought it was worth a try.
