Hello everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with SLE but I was told that I have mild lupus. I haven't seen the rheumatologist since she did the blood work/urine tests. My next appointment is 21 Mar 14. But I try to find information on "mild" lupus but really only come with there is mild, moderate and severe. What is the difference? Does anyone know? Is it the amount of flares, severity of flares, what it will affect in your body, etc? Does it or can it turn into moderate or severe SLE? I am going to ask these questions to the rheumy but I wanted to see if I can get any info before next week Friday.

I think severe is when organs are involved.

I was told I was moderate when diagnosed three years ago. I didn't have organ involvement, but I had a lot of pain and swelling at the time.

I don't know if you can switch levels.

Thanks for the reply Joy. May i ask if your symptoms remain the same from 3 years ago? I also have mainly severe joint pain, bad headaches, severe fatigue, i lost 18 lbs in one month, loss of appetite but nothing with my organs.

Your symptoms sound like mine when I was first diagnosed. I did not have the bad headaches, but I had severe joint pain, swelling, severe fatigue, weight loss, hair loss, rashes and breathing problems. I was diagnosed with moderate Lupus. I had organ involvement 5 years ago (digestive tract and small intestine), but am currently free of that issue. My doctor says that I range from mild to moderate Lupus. My symptoms wax and wane.

I've been pretty much the same since diagnosed. I'm only treated with plaquenil and occasionally a predisone pack.

Thanks Laura. I appreciate the response from you both. It is so nerve wrecking with being newly diagnosed and not knowing what to expect with lupus being such an unpredictable disease. Ill be glad when i go back in to see the rhuemy. I believe the only thing ill be on is plaquenil besides the blood pressure, tramadol for pain, anxiety, and GERD meds im currently on.
