I have been diagnosed with lupus. They put me on a drug (Plaquinel) to control the lupus symptoms. It worked like a charm for about a month but when i came down with a cold I flared up. Now i am having trouble getting rid of the cold and the hives. Did anybody have anything like this happen? If so how long does it take to go away? Its been 2 weeks. The reason the put me on the plaquinel in the first place was for the lupus induced hives. I dont know if its the cold or meds not working HELP

This years cold/flu is terribly difficult to get rid of. If you've had it for 2 weeks it's probably time to see a Dr. You probably need some medication that more directly affects hives in addition to the more generalized Plaquenil.

Is it normal for lupus to freak out with colds/flu even with lupus (I'm NOT on immunosuppressants)meds? I'm hoping I don't need to be concerned that plaquinel isn't working? I do have an appointment for doctor tonight (gp)

Your plaquenil is probably working just fine. Colds/flu in general aren't more/less because of lupus -- except in folks who have serious complications from lupus.

Don't worry, let your Dr know the circumstances, and get well soon!

Hi there I suffer from chronic hives and have been hospitalised twice this year going through the process off Deffo putting lupus as my label and fighting it to this day I'm on plaquinil and was on steroids ans anti histamines and a stomach tablet which blocked my second receptor I was very poorly. I find I'm left with nerve damage through out my skin any heat change and I get pain and hives come and go but not as servers as before I started plaquinil. It's a pain in the arse but comforting that someone else has this problem r u struggling bad with this problem do u get it all over. I'm guessing the sun's a killer for u to and u get I'll from the sun n I love hot weather to its a bummer! write back soon xxx

I am sorry you are going through this rough time. You are not alone. I do get them all over and even with Plaquenil I do get them with heat as well as extreme cold. Also like you they aren't as bad as before Plaquenil. I can't even be out gardening for too long it I get hives. I am also on a stomach pill as I have gastritis and several other stomach issues. I completely understand where your coming from. We at the forum are here for you. Anytime uou need us just post. There are periods of calm on our skin so when it's bad just know it will calm down soon.

And I am here for you two it puffs you out with fluid do you find ur arms can feel quite firm like a fluid build up. Has the doctor put u on ranatidine and antihistamines these help I have to take them regular. So has ur diagnosis been lupus then there not 100% for my but being treated for it. It's nice to know there is someone else like me not many people knew how to deal with me when I was in hospital I was a mess and I'm scared now if I come out with bad hives was on steroids for ages. What have the doctors said about your diagnosis x
