hydroxychloroquine injection

I am wondering if anyone else in the UK has been given a hydroxychloroquine injection before starting on meds? Rheumy said it would get into system quicker to see if it works for me for lupus symptoms. Problem is I feel it's working some days and then not other (tiredness hits again aching joints etc etc). Since having the injection tiredness and fog lifted for 2 days back again for 1 day back off again and so on. Is this normal and also had palpitations and ulcers in throat and mouth (no pain from them). I am a newby on here and have searched the net for info on the injection even asked at work (work in pharmacy) and nothing only on oral drugs.

Almost sure she said it was a hydroxychloroquine injection as she said it would help with tiredness and then start me on meds when go back in 6 weeks if all ok. Abit concerned they gave me no paperwork on whatever I was injected with - thought they would of gave me a info leaflet of some sort? Don't know if the ulcers n palpitations from the injection or a flare- very confused!

Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) is an anti-malarial generally considered to inhibit disease progression. It's fairly standard to be placed on this for years.

Corticosteroids (Prednisone, etc) are used to reduce inflammation and suppress activity of the immune system. Low doses are used long-term, higher doses to control flares. You should be getting regular bloodwork that includes watching your inflammation markers.

A third type of treatment is also used - Imuran, Cellcept, MTX, Benylsta, and others. This can sometimes send SLE into a "quiet" phase, but which med will work for which patient is entirely trial-and-error.
