Just curious... my daughter started to have AI symptoms a few months after she got two posts in her mouth for crowns. My dad had normal bloodwork until he had a hip replacement and then got liver cancer a few months after that. How many of you with AI symptoms or Lupus, or Lupus-like symptoms have some kind of dental or other metal implant somewhere, fillings, posts/crowns, etc?

I don't think having metal in your body will trigger AI.
I think it's just an unfortunate timing.
Best of luck to your daughter.

I had heard a lot about how the body considers the metal as an allergen or as a foreign body and so starts making antibodies to fight the foreign substance. Anyone else ready anything about that? BTW do you have an y fillings or metal in your body?

There are some people who believe metal filings are the root of all evil, oh, I meant the root of many illnesses. However, there is absolutely NO medical evidence that proves it.
Some hip replacements don't contain any metal at all.
Yeah, I have some metal filings, but, no, I don't think they have anything at all to do with Lupus or any other diseases.

Titanium, used in orthopaedic devices and oral implants, although considered an inert
material, can actually induce toxicity or allergic type I or IV reactions

My generation (I'm 55) grew up without fluoride in the water so I have a mouthful of fillings. They are all from my childhood as I haven't had a cavity since I was 10 or so. I'm just now getting diagnosed with lupus. I don't believe there is any correlation or more people my age would have lupus.

I am quite convinced that this Lupus thing is related to toxicity overload. I just had my silicone breast implants removed and first thing in the New Year am tackling my 6 mercury amalgams.
Anyone else with breast implants?

I have wondered about that too. I am a breast cancer survivor. I had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. They used silicon implants with the reconstruction. I got the implants at age 49. I'm being diagnosed with lupus at 55.

It's possible that one can unknowingly have an autoimmune disease that will flare when the body or mind undergoes stress. I have seen a correlation between dental work, surgery, emotional stress, etc. and my flares. However, I didn't flare after metal rods were put in my foot during surgery.
But this is purely anecdotal. What you suggests makes sense too. And we've probably all heard the suggestion that emotional stress can trigger cancer.
The best thing we can do is to be under the care of a good rheumatologist, eat well, and live a healthy life.
I hope your daughter's symptoms are temporary, but I strongly recommend a trip to the rheumy. My 26 year old daughter has had a high ANA and AI symptoms, so I can identify with what you're going through. Best of luck.

I tend to agree with pattylatty. I was a dental assistant up until a few years ago. I would be more inclined to think that she had a reaction to the lidocaine, or reaction caused by stress, or infection (which can spread during/after dental work). Considering that she had posts placed in the tooth, she most likely had root canals which removes the nerve and the pulp from the tooth. AKA no more blood supply or sensation for those teeth. The canals are filled with a cement material and posts are placed with a cement base for stability, well posts are used if you want your crown to stay on longer... especially if there is not much enamel left above the gum line. The crown itself will at least have a metal alloy base. Basically what I'm saying is the metal you are referring to is usually pretty well contained.
I never liked amalgam fillings because they do contain mercury and break down over time.
