Anyone here who has this? And could someone please help me with what the symptoms are for Drug Induced Lupus.

My main one was feeling like my feet were fracturing w/o the instability.

Drug-Induced Lupus Erythematosus (DILE or DIL)
Drug-induced lupus erythematosus is a side-effect of long-term use of certain medications. Specific criteria for diagnosing drug-induced lupus have not been formally established. However, some symptoms overlap with those of SLE. These include:

  • Muscle and joint pain and swelling
  • Flu-like symptoms of fatigue and fever
  • Serositis (inflammation around the lungs or heart that causes pain or discomfort)
  • Certain laboratory test abnormalities.

Once the suspected medication is stopped, symptoms should decline within days. Usually symptoms disappear within one or two weeks. Drug-induced lupus can be diagnosed with certainty only by resolution of symptoms and their failure to recur after stopping the medication

I was told when I had my first pericarditis episode, that the high prednisone dose was what brought on my diabetes, that particular doc told me that when I was off the prednisone, my pancreas wud revert back to making insulin as before...and the diabetes would disappear LOL  the diabetes specialists looked at me incredulously and said...if that happens...you will be in the MEDICAL JOURNALS tongue

I have Remicade induced lupus. My C3 complement is always very low and I have anti-dsDNA antibodies. I have monthly blood work to make sure I have no organ involvement starting. The muscle aches are what get me the most. The joint pain I have started way before the Remicade so I know it is from my Ankylosing Spondylitis. I have lots of info on DIL [mostly from the biologics] if you are interested. I will check back and see if you want it.

Although I was diagnosed SLE, my illness was originally triggered right after I had taken ONE Tetracycline pill.  Call it a drug-induced flare, call it a coincidence, I don't know.  What I DO know is that I have never touched Tetracycline since, and it is on all my medical charts that I cannot take anything in the same family as Tetracycline.  The sysmptoms I had were mainly very painful, swollen, stiff joints.

Hi Neuro,

   I have alot of vision problems from Sjogren's, like dry eyes, floaters, blurred vision. Lupus can also cause vision problems as well. I can't stand bright light. When I go outside if its not completely cloudy, I have to look down the whole time. Most of the time I keep the inside of my house dark. I also get eye infections every once in a while.

I am new to this forum and adding to this thread late, but I have a deep interest in the subject.

I got drug-induced lupus (DIL) from Remicade. This was confirmed by high ds-DNA antibodies, high anti-histone antibodies, high anti-Remicade antibodies, and various symptoms including joint pain, weakness, bouts of fatigue, occasional brief flushing on my face and chest (though I've stayed out of the sun), etc.

I too was told that the DIL should subside shortly after stopping the offending medication. We stopped the medication 12 months ago, and I am still waiting for the lupus symptoms and abnormal anti-histone antibodies to clear up. I tried taking Plaquenil twice, but both attempts caused severe diarrhea. Since I was on Remicade for Ulcerative Colitis, medicines that cause severe diarrhea are to be avoided.

Has anyone else had DIL last this long? I was on the Remicade for over 2 years before this was discovered, and I wonder if that's why my DIL is lasting longer.

My Rheumatologist has repeated tests to rule out real lupus (SLE), so we're fairly certain we're dealing with DIL here, perhaps mixed with symptoms of having an auto-immune disease: UC.
