Brain Fog? What is it exactly?

Yesterday I was at a baby shower. I put my drink on the chair next to my husband and went to get a piece of cake. When I returned I sat in the opposite chair and asked him to pass me my paper. In my mind I said water but I heard paper. I asked him did I say paper? yep I did! smhair This morning I fed the dogs and 1 of them was just looking at me I said go eat... I could not remember her name for the life of me. This is scary. Is this what is meant by brain fog?

Yes!

Those types of things can occur often with brain fog.

I've learned to laugh at those moments.
It is frustrating but if I don't laugh I will sit down and cry.
I just call it my pudding brain.

Brain fog can be very embarrasing for me, in mid sentence you forget someone's name, or lose your train of thought. That look you get from the person you are talking to can be very disconcerting! I usually start giving the listener hints of who I am trying to remember, kind of like charades.
Brain fog and blurred vision has really improved around six months after starting with the hydroxyclorequine.
As for the cause, I think it has to do with a restriction of blood flow in the brain.

This might help you understand. I had it quite bad the first year but less over the years....short term memory, loss of vocabulary, lack of concentration, and more emotional.

It's the one thing that drives me bonkers. Before I got Lupus I had a fantastic memory, sort of like a video memory, where I could replay things in my mind and remember exactly what was said and what was done.When the Lupus struck it was so hard, the one thing that always worked perfectly despite my body falling apart was my brain and now even that doesn't work right. I'm always saying wrong word even though I know the right one and find it difficult in my employment as I work in finance and interview customers all day. Getting halfway through a sentence and forgetting what I had just started saying or words for simple things. Luckily my employer has been great in making huge adjustments for me so I have plenty of down time as I find concentrating for long periods exhausting.

I used to be a teacher and I can't remember the names of my last group I taught. It's frustrating, but thankfully I've learned to laugh at my mistakes and write notes.
I don't trust my memory anymore.
