There are a lot of reasons but the biggest one for all generic drugs is that they are cheap. Companies are not making them or dramatically raising prices and there have been shortages of many inexpensive generics that are critical to treating many different types of patients.

We all like to pick on the big drug companies that produce new drugs at astronomical costs but generic makers aren't much better or more ethical. Many of our drugs are made overseas today due to cost but just like the offshoring done for other products and services it rarely meets the standards of products made in the advanced world.

Hydroxychloroquine is the generic for Plaqunil, but some of the suppliers are low on the medicine (or it's nonexistent). They had to switch the pill I was taking a few months ago. It used to be oblong and now it is round (and about the size of my iron pill, making me think I am taking the same pill twice).

I take the generic form and it hasn't changed in several years.

My generic plaquenil went from $5 for 3 months to $93 for 1 month on my ins. I called the navy base and got 3 months free. I hope when this is gone they still have it.

Haha ya'll should have seen me, crying at the pharmacy counter and several other customers waiting in line behind me because I just found out my prescription is now 10x's as much, from $3 to $32 for a 1 month supply... well it was just the cherry on top of a BAD day. I'm going to have to move to a pharmacy on the poor side of town, no one there understood why an extra $30 a month was slightly upsetting. I, in all seriousness, asked the lady behind the counter if a plaquenil refinery blew up in the middle east.

btw I get the generic form.

They changed the shape! Now it looks like my paxil.
I get mine at walmart so the price didn't go up thank goodness.

I take the generic and the cost went from around $25 to $150 for a 1 month supply confused Of course I couldn't pay for it, so I'm now without it. Hoping when I get insurance later this month I can afford it. Also hoping I don't go into a flare.

I tried getting mine at Walmart and by the time the prescription was switched it cost $40 after insurance. Then both pharmacies wanted $40 and informed me that my insurance paid over $200. I'm scared what it will be the next time, I may ask if I can do a goodrx coupon instead of insurance, never had to ask for that before... =/

Last month I got a round pill. This month I got the caplets with plaquinel stamped on it. No price changes though.
