about 3-4 yrs ago I wound up in the ER. Severe abdominal pain lasting for hours, nausea, diarrhea, bad smelling burps. Symptoms were aggravated after eating. At the time they suspected my gallbladder and did a ct scan which showed them nothing. They sent me home with a couple hydrocodones and a shrug. I took 1 pill which knocked me out, when I woke up the pain was gone. I've had a couple touch and go instances like that ever since, just not quite as bad.

Now it's back again. Nothing showed on the previous ct scan but I'm wondering if this could still be my gallbladder or gallstones or something. In the past it was peanuts that set it off. Now it looks like ice cream set it off this time. It woke me in the middle of the night yesterday and went away after a few hours. It woke me up again at 3am today. I really don't want to do the rounds with dr's again :'(

That sounds like Diverticulitis. Nuts, seeds etc get caught in the pockets of the large intestine and cause inflammation. My boyfriend let it go too long and had to have a temporary colostomy. Make sure they rule that out. If my boyfriend had not waited so long, it could have been treated with strong antibiotics and resting the colon.

I will definitely ask. Colon cancer also runs in the family among a couple others, and it tends to hit my family at an earlier age. So that is always a worry at the back of my mind. Whatever it is I think it's higher up in my stomach. It gets worse if I eat anything. Yesterday I ate a little bit, immediately felt full, and it upset my whole stomach again. I thought I had food poisoning but no one else got sick.

I ate dinner last night and felt fine. (It was my husband's b'day and he wanted Zaxbys). Then it hit me again this morning worse than yesterday. The pain is a cramping pain like a fist twisting in the middle of my stomach, below the ribcage.

The reason I asked is because my boyfriend had purchased a jar of pistachios a few weeks before and the doc said that is what got the ball rolling. He had on & off pain for a couple of weeks before it got really bad. As the doc explained, the nuts lodged in a pocket and then got inflammed. That in turn causes the pocket to become infected. For my boyfriend, it perforated the bowel because he waited too long.
