ANA Positive and HLA-B27 Positive. Lupus? RA? Ankylosing Spondylitis?

All my life I have hurt.. it started when I was 16 with my tail bone (I'm 52 now). All through high school I thought my tail bone must be broken. I still can't sit in a hard chair for long. In my 30s my knees, lower back, neck, shoulders and hips starting hurting. I have had L & R orthoscopic shoulder surgery and injections in my knees and hips. I have been told all these years it is Osteoarthritis. I went to the pain clinic and had extensive injections in my neck. In the past 5 years I have had heel pain off and on, added to the list above. In the past year, my hips hurt so bad I can hardly walk (told it was bursitis). Three months ago both my wrists starting hurting. I went back to the doc and he ordered more blood work. My RA was negative. My SED was normal. No Lyme detection. All was normal except two tests... Positive ANA 1:320 -speckled with traces of homogenous patterns. Positive HLA-B27. I have an apt with a rheumatologist in 2 months (first available). Of course I am searching to see what is wrong with me especially now that my fingers are burning like mad. My fingers and toes feel like bee stings with no swelling. Every now and then my elbows and knees will sting. All along, my neck, back, hips hurt. WTHeck is wrong with my body!!!

To me it sounds like you could have several autoimmune diseases, which is not unusual. A positive Ana and hla-b27 aren't conclusive to a lupus diagnosis. A good rheumatologist will consider your symptoms as well as your bloodwork and xrays, and a thorough physical exam. Try not to stress over it or worry too much, listen to what your rheumatologist has to say (hopefully this rheumy has experience). Perhaps write a list of your symptoms down and note any patterns to discuss with your rheumy. Like if you feel worse after certain activities, after being out in the sun, worse in the mornings, do you feel worse for weeks at a time and gradually feel better. Did you feel better after steroid shots. And so on. Get a second or third opinion if the rheumy doesn't seem to have the right answers.

I wanted to update that I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, hence ANA positive. I will be checked for Anklosing Spondylitis in July (HLAB-27 positive).

My initial symptoms that I went to the doctor for was joint pain in my hips (chronic) and sudden joint pain in my fingers with no swelling. When I look back, I have dry hair, headaches, fatigue, mood swings, hot flashes like crazy. I thought it was menopause and was/is to some degree, but the Hashi probably made all of those symptoms worse. I was having 30-50 hot flashes a day. about 6 months ago I went and got on a low dose of estrogen, which halted the hot flashes. Now I wonder if that was a mistake and set off Hashimoto. :(

I will check out the thread for thyroid disorders.
