Hi Ashley,
My boyfriend gets like that and brings home multiple ticks every day. The weather is really right for them this year. Anyway, they often swell because you don't get the head out. I have found it hard to get the head out because I swell when I get bit. But the other problem is that I take so many meds the ticks die attached to me, and then I swell up around the head and can't get the tick to release because its dead. I had the same problem with a flea. I had a bg mosquito bite that had a blackspot inthe middle. Iput some cortisone cream on it to stop the itch ad swelling and then took tweezers to the center. I was able to see the flea, having died on biting me and drinking my blood, and the skin had reacted to the dead flea by swelling up around it.
You know you are on too many meds when fleas and ticks die like that!
If you think you still have the head in you, which happens all the time, I use neosporin ointment and cortisone cream, but it takes forever for it to go away, I will be picking at it a month later. Try to get the whole tick out by havingsomeone else remove it for you using tweezers and lighting a match, blowing it out, and putting the smoking hot endof the match on the tick. I have become used to using OFF deep woods. It really helps. Skin So Soft, mixed with half water and sprayed on with a spray bottle also repels insects. I have found the little hard ticks/deer ticks die and wash off in the shower with plain soap, but they can live in the drain and shower walls, looking like a speck of dirt, so I spray the shower and drain regularly. I've had them get me in the shower after my boyfriend took one.
I hope you don't get real sick from the ticks. I get sick from yellowflies. I would see the doc if you keep having problems.
