Barbara is having more and more trouble breathing.

At her Dr appointment Friday they admitted her to the hospital so that if she gets any worse she can be intubated immediately. So far she's able to breath (with oxygen) without intubation.

They discovered she has air in her chest cavity (outside her lungs) pressing on her heart. Tomorrow they are trying to do a passive (non-biopsy) method to figure out what is causing the issue.

I'm sure Barbara will appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and posts.

Barbara is resting comfortably, without having to be intubated, after her tests today, but they don't have any results yet. I'm not sure if they have to try & grow cultures or if other tests will follow.

All I know is 8 liters is a friggin lot! The "average" person who needs O2 gets 2 liters just to help raise their oxygen saturation level in their blood (O2 Sat). When hospital personnel place that little device on your index finger it measures your O2 Sat. Unfortunately when you are having as much trouble breathing as Barbara is, they draw blood from an artery to get a full set of blood gases. Arterial draws are difficult and a bear to endure, even if they don't take long to draw. Oh Barbara, please get better. Love, Donna

Really good news. After all that worry that taking a biopsy would be a life-threatening exercise, they were able to get a lung sample fairly quickly, with a smaller incision than expected.

PLUS, Barbara was able to come off the ventilator first try, so no ICU for her!!

Too early for the pathology report, but here's hoping it is something they have a treatment for.

Hello all this is Nikita, Barbara's daughter. She is currently doing well. Her epidural is not working which is causing her pain to be outstanding. She currently has a chest tube in her side which is going through her lung. This is additionally causing pain. The tube will be removed once her nurses can successfully get her up and sitting in a chair. We will continue to update family and friends on her condition as we learn more information. If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will answer with what updated information I have.

The majority of all updates coming from her phone will be coming from me, although she has possession of her phone so that she can call myself and my father if need be. Please try to avoid calling her at this time seeing as she is in a lot of pain and needs to be resting.

Thank you for all of the prayers and positive thoughts, they are truly appreciated and we are telling her all of your warm wishes. I will continue to update as we learn more. - Nikita

They were able to remove Barbara's chest tube Friday afternoon which greatly reduced her pain. She expects to be moved from ICU to a regular room sometime today. (Saturday)

oh my goodness, i am praying for her. I am so sorry to hear she has gone through such an ordeal.

It has been quite awhile since we have chatted, but I am back and sending many prayers and positive thoughts your way.
