Discoid lupus stubborn lesion

Hi everyone...im new here. I was diagnosed with DLE four years ago. I have had lesion come and go. They appear on my chest, face and back. I have had one on the tip of my nose for two years now that has totally deformed my nose. It appeared after getting sunburnt two summers ago even though I slathered on the sun screen and wore a hat. Super depressing as it won't go away. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Osidecassi,

I have several areas where I've had rashes where I've had to have them lasered because of abnormalities of one type or another. Has this turned into a growth or just unsightly? Either way I would highly recommend seeing a dermatologist if you haven't already. I have had really good luck with having mine corrected.

Hi Melissa,

It is just not going away and has just become really unsightly. The skin is indented in areas and make up won't cover it any longer as it actually makes it look worse. Does the laser help the lesion heal or does it help with the scarring after it heals?

Laser has helped quite a bit for me, that said insurance may or may not cover this depending on how your dermatologist codes it, as well as if you go to a certified dermatologist. In the beginning I just wanted these areas cleared up, so I was going to spas etc and having treatments and laser done there, it got very, very expensive. Then I found out if I found the correct dermatologist because this is caused by my lupus I could get this covered. I know exactly what you are talking about with makeup. I have stood in front of the mirror on many occasions and cried because my face looks so bad and it's made worse actually by putting on makeup. Makeup simply will not stick or cover on the lesions, scars, etc which blows my mind.

Clobetasol worked well on my lesions. My derm, who interned with a lupus specialist, did not recommend laser treatment. He said it can irritate discoid and cause a flare. Kind of how Michael Jackson continued to have issues.

Discoid is different than SLE rashes. Left untreated, they are scarrring. 
Best advice is to stay out of the sun and practice sun smarts!! High SPF, hats, long sleeves etc....

Thank you Tinkerbee for mentioning this, I do not have discoid, I have SLE, so you are correct the types of rashes we have are most likely totally different.

Dermablend Cover Creme works really well.
