Hurts to be touched

Hi all,

 

I have a question, dont know if it's RA or Lupus, but do any of you have times that when you are showering it hurts to wash yourself? Like you are bruised from the waist up, my chest, my arms and sides, when I shower it hurts to touch or put that gentle pressure you normally use when bathing.  Been happening for several days now...just curious, as I have been touchy on my lower legs for some time, like if my cat walks on me when I'm sitting, I definately feel his weight on my bones and it hurts too, but this upper body thing is new.

when i am flaring, yes, it will hurt sometimes to be touched. even my cloths have caused horrible pain before, but more typically, it hurts to be touched or hugged even gently. it me it feels like the underside of my skin is bruised (if that makes any sense!), even though it looks normal.

i'm sorry your having this problem, it really it can be really bothersome. i hope it passes soon!

  I'm sorry your going through this...((Gentle Hugs)). Fibro makes me feel like this when it is flaring. It seems like every muscle is so tender to the touch. Of course lupus can attacked our muscles and every part of our body as well. Also, sometimes when your tapering pred this can happen for a day or so until you adjust to the lower dose.

  I hope this gets better for you soon. Rest and take care. Update us when you can. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Yes Jessica !!! like you are bruised, but there are no bruises.

And Babs, Easter weekend, or the end of it, I was getting the pericarditis, so of course they upped the pred to 25mg, and from sat till now, I have been tapering to 15 mg, so that cud be it.  It's just odd because I have had the pericarditis thing on and off for a while now, but i dont ever remember feeling like this...just the sore skin (that flu like feeling) this is internal. THere are other things too, I think maybe something is wrong, I just dont feel right mentally or physically, maybe I am finally roundin the bend eyes

Hi Diane, Yes I have had this. I don't know what it is but sometimes I feel like it's down to the bone. Other times if you softly run a hand accrossed my arm just below my shoulder not even enough to press on my skin it hurts like a tooth ache. but it's not on the surfice.

I hope you get it figured out and get some releif!

Diane, I hope this doesn't last long. I was thinking about possible fibro too when I read your post, but I hadn't thought about the prednisone taper which could also be a good possibility. I feel rotten if I try to cut down on prednisone too much or too fast. Take care and I hope you get some relief soon.

Well..I wudnt be surprised..it's been 3 yrs since I have been dx with anything new, so maybe fibro...or just tapering too quickly from the prednisone. I did drop 10 mg in less than a week, but in the past that didnt seem to be a problem because once I hit the 15 mg, I usually stay at that for a bit, then taper more, but slower.

Thank you again girls...I go to my ..ahem...rhuemy in june, but now that I have joined here, I will try to get my blood test results too!!!!  he doesnt know it, but I have taken responsibility for my illnesses now, and I want to be informed for now on!!!

Hi Diane,

 

Yes, it sounds like fibro to me too.  I have fibro also, and I feel like one big body bruise!  Just so you know, prednisone and fibro don't go well together.  The more prednisone you're on, the more your fibro will flare up.  They don't mix.

 

So as you taper down on your prednisone, you should notice an improvement in your pain.  If you don't improve, you probably just need to give your body time to heal and a chance for the fibro to calm down.

 

In any case, I would see your rheumy about this so that they can make a positive diagnosis for you.  I have found one drug in particular, very effective in managing my fibro.  It helps with the aches and pain and also improves my sleep.  People with fibromyalgia tend to not sleep very well.  The drug is Elavil, also known as Amitriptyline.  I take a low dose - 20mg about 90 minutes before bed time.  Works like a charm!  This drug doesn't always work for everyone though. But if you do have fibro and find it unmanageable, just mention it to your rheumy.
