back pain

I'm sorry you're hurting.  Back pain is bad because your back is basically half your body!  Have you had any mris or cat scans done?  You may have some osteoarthritis or something like that.  I take ultram and it handles the pain pretty well, and I was on fentanyl, so it works pretty good and is nonaddicting.  I've taken naproxyn before and it works pretty good on pain, as does motrin, especially if it's muscle related, so if it didn't work, maybe something more is happening.  I also have fibro and I don't know where all the pressure points are but my fibro I've been told is because I don't sleep well due to the pain in my back.  Muscle relaxers, my neurosurgeon says, can be bad or good, but he says that if your back is crooked, they can make your back go out of alignement more, and its possible to hurt your back if you don't stay flat the next day.  Since this is seldom possible, I don't take them much.  I hope you can get your doc to check into this and get you some pain relief.  I can fully sympathize and ((((hugs)))) and hope you feel better soon.

I too suffer from back pain on a daily basis - yesterday was a really bad day for me too - I could hardly get out of bed.  I suffer from Pleurisy but my doctor also mentioned that I may have arthiris in my rib cage too.  I can't remember the last time I took a deep breath...  My doctor gives me pain meds (percocet) but my g/f, who is a nurse suggested another OTC drug... I can't remember the name right now but I just called her to find out (had to leave a message).  She told me that her doctor suggested it to her and it is a long acting drug that doesn't make you groggy.  I'll post the name of it later when she returns my call.

I made myself a rice bag too.  I put a bunch of rice in a pillow case - you throw it in the microwave to heat it up.  It's great for the aches and pains and there is no cord to deal with!!!  The other nice thing about it is that you can form it around any area that is achy...  If a cold pack is required, you can also throw this bag in the freezer so that the rice freezes too!  I haven't used it cold but if that's your preference...

Yes, I have really bad back pain. I have had it for years with the last episodes for about 3 months.  In the last 2 weeks it has really hit me hard though.  Going down into my bottom, it's really horrid.

I had x rays and they have come back with the results now.  I have a diagnosis of :- lumbosacral spondylosis, thoracic spondylosis.  Also my sacroiliac joints are out of sync.  I have osteoporosis because I have been taking steroids daily - in huge amounts at times - for 30+ years, and nobody bothered to put me on any treatments for bone thinning - doh !!    I also have osteoarthritis, and thinning of the whole of the spine.  Oh and severe swelling in the surrounding tissue.

I started physio last week, but don't know if this will improve things for me.  l hope it does because back pain is the most horrid thing isn't it ?  So debilitating.

  I'm sorry you have been having alot of terrible back pain...((Hugs)). Back pain is miserable!  It's good to hear it is a bit better with the heating pad. That usually helps me too or a good long soak in a hot tub of water. I do have to take muscle relaxers at times though.

  I hope this gets alot better for you soon. Take it easy at work and rest all you can. Please keep us updated. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
