How to handle a really busy week

I have an incredibly insanely busy week ahead of me and would love any kind of advice or ideas on ways to make it through without going into a flare. First of all, my hubby will be out of town on business from tomorrow through Friday, so he won't be around to help, so that is stressful.  The week consists of several appointments that are an hour away (one hour each way).  One of the appointments is for my son, Josh to see the cardiologist.  Josh has several baseball practices that overlap with rehearsals that my 5 yr old daughter Abby has for her dance recital this weekend.  Abby's t-ball team also started practice and games this week (we haven't made a practice yet because the dance recital is this weekend and she has to be at all rehearsals).  It's unbelievable how stressful the week before the recital is because of all of the practices and then there are two nights of recital (both Friday and Saturday).  Then you thow in some t-ball games and Josh's baseball practices and I'm not sure when his games start - I hope not until next week.  Everything just seemed to happen all at once this week and of course it had to be a week when my hubby will be gone.  Usually my hubby can manage his work schedule so he can step in and help a lot, but he'll be gone.  My mom can help some on one day when there is some overlap, but she has some things going on this week too and she's 70 yrs old and I don't want to wear her out either.  I'm just kind of overwhelmed by it all.  I think today, I'll try to get myself super organized and lay anything out that I can ahead of time and maybe make some lists so I hopefully won't forget anything.  Any other suggestions?

Oh wow Hippi,

    ((((Hugs))) Bless your heart! It sounds like you have some major stress factors going on right now. Hopefully, once you get your list in order things will play out. I'm sure this is so hard with your husband gone. What about other t-ball and baseball mom's and dad's picking up some slack for you and taking your kids to some practices? When my kids were younger and involved in alot of sports and activities us mom's and dad's would car pool kids when needed.

   I hope Josh's appt goes well on thursday and he will finally get some anwers and relief. Please try not to get too stressed out. It will all work out. Take care and update us when you can. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I go straight for anything that can save time. I love to cook and think fast food is the bane of American health but I go right for the take out any night I have had an overwhelming day. I will even stop a couple of times (my brother is living with me now and my son is hard to please). I just say, who wants what and I'll stop and get it. Let the laundry pile up and the dishes sit in the sink. Declare that everybody has to "fend for themselves" unless they really need the help (like you have to do the driving but that's it - explain that you need their help so if they ask you to do something, ask them if there is some way they can get some of what ever they want done by themselves). Enlist help from parents, maybe you can take some child to one recital and another parent can take Abby for the other. Same for baseball practices and t-ball games, try car pooling.

Get all the information and sit down and organize! You can do it! Sorry I sound so bossy.

When I have a very busy schedule I usually sit down and try and prioritize all my tasks.  One person cant do it all and at the end of the day you have to be well in order for anything to get done!

The medical appts. come first so I would put that on the top of the list.  I agree about asking other parents about a carpool for the week.  Or, perhaps offer to do all the driving to and from practices for another week if you can get help this week.

I dont eat fast food but when things are hectic I do buy lots of precut/pre bagged veggies and fruits and other easy to prepare items.  They are a bit more expensive but its worth it to me and important that I keep up eating whole and fresh food no matter what.

Hippi,

I think we are living parrallell lives.  We start baseball and softball and are working up to the dance recital.  Not to mention all these end of the year field trips that I (being a wise axx) signed up to go on.  It is so hectic and can be overwhelming.

        I       FEEL YOUR PAIN-----------CAN I GET AN AMEN SISTER!

 

I always ask myself around Christmas time --"How am I ever going to get everything done?"  And then I remind myself that we have always had a Christmas and so it will happen again.  (And then I pray!)

I read something this morning that has stuck with me .....

 

Stop telling God

how big your storms are

And start telling your storms

How big your God is

 

Anyway, From one busy mom to another...we don't always know how but somehow we get it done.  Keep your chin up and I will be sending you lots of prayers!

Thanks for the tips. Carpooling is a good idea. You want to know the funny thing about all this though - one dad called me today and asked me for help because his son plays ball with mine and his daughter is in the recital and he's a single dad, so I said that his son could come to our house after practice today because my hubby would be home by then. I need to see who is on my daughter's t-ball team and check into some carpooling and I know I can probably get some help from some of the parents on my son's team. I like the list of priorities too - It's very true that things like the medical appointments come first and then things like games and recitals and then practices. And yes... I'll probably get some food on the go this week - thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one who needs to do stuff like that when life gets crazy. I made some lists and got piles together to get things ready at least for today's things and then tomorrow while the kids are in school I'll work on some more organization. I just need to take a deep breath and realize that yes, I will get through this and it will work out fine. Bitzi, you sound like me - volunteering for stuff and then when the time comes, you wonder what in the heck you were thinking. Thanks again everyone.

Goodness hippi. That does sound tough. I work full time and I can only squeeze in making dinner on top of that on the weekdays. My hubby does go out of town but luckily he hasn't when my son's sports are in season. I'm sorry that you got so much on your plate right now. All I can advise, is just to rest when at all possible. Hippi, you say you're overwhelmed. I'd be paralized! I remember how exhausted I was at your age with young children, and I was healthy. It sounds like between your ideas and advice you've gotten here you'll get through it.

You know, Hippi, I'll bet if you didn't have health problems and someone you vaguely knew did, and she called you asking for help, you'd be more than happy to pitch in. There was a mom on my daughter's baseball team a few years ago, who had parkinson's and we all helped her whenever we could or whenever she called. You might be pleasantly surprised.

As good a mom as you are, I'm sure your kids can help out too. I know your daughter is young, and Josh has a lot of pain, but they can pitch in too.

I'll be thinking of you and am anxious for your hubby to get back and give you a break.

Boy do I know these sort of weeks. I have no kids, but always have so much on my plate.
How I usually get through them is with tons of vodka and xanax ;-) Kidding of course.
The best way to get through tough weeks is to just take it a step at a time.
We feel overwhelmed from the worry of it more than the actualy event.
The trick is how to turn the worry off. Best bet, just do one task at a time and know you'll get through it.

Yes, one step at a time - much more than that is too much. Last night with dance rehearsal alone was exhausting and then JOsh woke up crying in agony this morning because his pain was so bad. He was sobbing and begging me to take him to the doctor so he could get help with his pain. I gave him some medicine and just sat with him and told him that if the medicine didn't kick in after a while that I would take him in. Thankfully the meds started working and he got some relief. I just keep tackling each day as it comes and try not to get too far ahead of myself. Thanks so much for all of the ongoing support. Something I am realizing about myself is that I need to get more comfortable asking for help.

Thinking of you and sending you energy. Yes, focus on one thing, get it done, and move on as best you can. Including, of course, trying to schedule in down time! Sorry that Josh is in so much pain. Makes a Mom feel helpless, I know.

h as i can, somehow u will get thru this terricly hectic time but remember to take some "me time" in between to catch your breath, dont be afraid to ask anyone for help, when you can, just knowing people are willing to help out can brighten a persons day! hope josh is feeling a little better and good luck with the dance t-ball and baseball practices, always in my thoughts and prayers xxx missusa

I just wanted to stop by and say that I hope the rest of your week goes well. As busy as you are, take some time for yourself, and breathe. We all know how important not doing too much is. ((hugs))

P.S. I hope all goes well with Josh and the both of you are able to get some releif.
