Weird lump on my head

I have this weird lump on my head. It's maybe the size of a quarter, it actually appeared last month. Which I brushed off as a bug bite because it just felt a bit swollen like how a bug bite feels. After a week or so, it disapeared so I didn't worry about it too much.

Well, a few days ago. A lump appears again in the same exact spot. So maybe it wasn't a bug bite like I originally thought. It feels bigger this time around. It's a bit swollen and feels almost like a bruise. Except it's not, since I'm pretty sure even with my bad memory. I would remember if I got hit on the head.

I parted my hair, which wasn't hard since it's soo thin I could easily see my scalp. The bump is around the size of a marble, hurts to the touch, and is pinkish/purplish in color.

I have no idea what it is. I emailed my doctor to ask, and haven't heard back from her yet. I don't go in too see her until the end of the month.

Can it be a growth? It didn't bother me the first time around because it didn't really hurt, but I can feel it and it's bigger now so I'm kind of concerned.

Is it your rheumy you asked about it? You might consider checking with a dermatologist or with a primary care physician, if its possible to see them sooner. It can't cross the bone barrier into the brain (at least as far as I know), so it's probably not an emergency, but if it's growing (esp. if growing rapidly) I'd have it checked by a dermy sooner rather than later. Hope it turns out to be nothing,

Yes, I emailed my rheumy to ask. I'll email my dermatologist as well to see if I can get a better response. I haven't seen my primary care physician in over two years, since most my doc appointments is usually with my rheumy, so he's probably of no help.

I still don't know what it is. But I'm combing my hair over it for now to hide the spot as well as the thinning patches of hair.

On a unrelated note to the weird lump. My scalp has been particularly itchy the past few weeks as well. Not sure if it's because of the thinning hair or what. But it's mostly my scalp at the base of my neck that's itchy.

My first reaction would have also been a bite of some kind, and of course I have ticks on my mind theses days, but I don't think that tick bites swell up. I'm glad you're having checked out now rather than later. I happened to be a worrywart about things like this because I'm so paranoid about having something else go wrong. Let us know what it is.

Yeah, that was my original thought at well since it's summer and there's a ton of bugs outside. It did swell up and then disapeared after a few days. And now that's it's reappeared and seems to be bigger as well as being tender to the touch I'm more concerned and think that it might not be a bug bite after all.

Hi Hiedi, I have no idea what it is. I have actually had bug bites on my head that have taken months to heal for some reason. Maybe it still is a bug bite. It may have been healing and got infected. I hate to sound gross but sometimes they lay eggs where they bite. I hope your doctor can help you out with this. Try not to think too bad of thoughts until you get some answers.

I actually have a couple of bumps (a bit smaller than yours, maybe the size of a bean) on my head as well and they feel strange. I haven't had them checked out yet but had my husband look at them and he tells me that they are sort of white bumps. Mine don't seem to leave though, just stay there. Sometimes it feels like the skin on them peels off (I know GROSS!) but they don't get red, just like a dead skin. I just noticed them a couple of months ago and have been to many dr appts but never remember to ask about them. Let us know what your doc says and if I can remember to ask myself, I'll let you know.
