malar rash?

Hello... Im still in diagnosis limbo but I have an appointment to see a Rhemy in a few weeks. My question is about malar rashes? Is it just redness across the cheeks and nose or is it something more? All the pictures that I have seen just look like redness, but when I think of the term "rash" I think of blochy, raised, itchy things. Can someone explain what theirs looks like? Does it show up suddenly or does the face slowly get red like that? Thanks!!

Hi Denise,

Mine is not raised and it spreads across from cheek to cheek and over my nose. The very middle part (between) my eyebrows gets red too. Rashes don't always have to be raised. I have SCLE also and most of those are not raised at all and do not scar.

The rash Des describes sounds just like mine. I can tell how I feel in the morning just by looking in the mirror. The worse I feel, the redder my cheeks and nose are. Take pictures and also go to the rheumy without any kind of foundation or face powder.

The rash I get on my face is also not raised. It appears under both my eyes in like half moon shapes and symmetrical. However the rash I get elsewhere is raised, itchy, burning and extremely painful.

The rash I get is very faint but like lion said it's like half moon shaped under my eyes. it also is acrossed my nose. If I have makeup on you can't even see it. Today however I looked in the mirror and I have a very light rash that completely covers my forehead. None of them are raised or it. However if I have it bad under my eyes I noticed I can't wear my sunglasses because it makes it worse. I have gotten it so bad there that it has actually bled. But again that was irritated by I beleive was the rims of my glasses and sweat in the summer time. Like the others said take pictures. Also don't go by what others say. If you're is not like these it means absolutely nothing because every one is different. There are also other auto immune disease that cause different types of rashes so until the doctor rules it in are out it's still a symptom. There are a lot of people here at have lupus and get no rash at all.
I hope you get some good solid answers at your appt! let us know. Also make sure you have everything written down. anything that is out of the ordinary. Right down to a hang nail. Find out from your family all your history. Ask them if they remember anything that might have happened that you forgot or blew off. take your temp3 times a day and keep records of it. Bring everything you can get your hands on to your appt.

Thanks for such great ideas. I never thought to take a picture, or to keep track of my temp. But I will start doing that and have plenty of info for my Rheumy visit. My face almost looks like a light sunburn, just red enough to notice a difference. It is pretty much from cheek to cheek, and not on my forehead or chin. In a way I hope this helps to finally get a real Diagnosis.
