random pain question

Goodness, I get random pains just about everywhere hehe. But I have had them underneath my right ribcage, even had my gallbladder looked at very closely and nothing was wrong. No cause found for the pain.

I get it sometimes under both ribs though, and in the middle even.... so I am not sure if its the same pain that your talking about.

Sounds like a possible gall bladder problem, do you have any other symptoms besides the pain? Could be an ulcer also, are you taking any NSAIDs?

Yes, just as Rosie describes, I have the same thing. The pain is quite random and it does move to the center and/or the left side at times, too. Chalk it up to another "lu*****" symptom!

Starz, What tests did they run on your gall bladder? Did they do a hida scan? If they were just looking for stones, they wouldn't be able to see if the gall bladder was malfunctioning. A bad gall bladder I don't think is fatal but it can cause a lot of discomfort. My husband had his removed ON HIS BIRTHDAY because that was the soonest surgery date available, I felt bad for him. Another thing you may want to consider getting checked out is your liver as it lies in that general vicinity also. Make sure you put it on your list to bring up with the doctor.

Hi, Starz. I too, have had a pain at the bottom of my rib cage; both sides at different times. It turns out though, that my lungs are involved in my lupus. My left pleural membrane was 3/4's full of pleural fluid last year and partially collapsed my left lung, so the left side hurt. There were many other problems as well though, shortness of breath, pain in my back, can't even remember them all (of course, I was being misdiagnosed then so add to that bad problems from wrong medicines). When found after nearly a month of being ignored, I finally had the fluid drained. Shortly after that, the right side wanted its' turned so the pleurisy pains kicked in on that side. I'm sure your docs have or will check for lung involvement especially if you have any other symptoms indicating that. Does it hurt especially when you take deep breaths? Have you had simple chest ex-rays? Hope you are able to find out the cause soon.

I have all kinds of pains under over and in my ribs. When your liver swells, it presses up under your rib cage and even pops out underneath it. It is connected to your gall bladder over on that side, so gallbladder pain can feel that way. Pain in the right shoulder, just under the shoulder blade is liver pain too. It wouldn't hurt to have your liver enzymes tested to see if your meds might be making your enzymes go up or something. Sometimes that happens. I think I passed a gallstone recently and I had a lot of pinching pain on the right as you describe. Hopefully it will go away. I have a lot of gi pain all over due to diverticulitis and irritable bowel, even kind of high up. There's not much they can do so I just learn to live with it. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi, I have had several bouts of severe pain right under my right cage. I've gone to the ER a few times, but my gallbladder came back clear. I thought it would be my gallbladder b/c I have a strong family history of gallbladder disease. But the last time I went, they referred me to a doc for further testing. I know I had ultrasound, but cant remember what else he did, it's been several years. This particular docor couldnt find anything with my gallbladder, but he said I have a hemangioma on my liver, which is in that same general area. He said it's usually nothing serious unless the hemagioma bursts for some reason. He said this might have been causing me my pain episodes and it might have been inflamed. He did tell me to go to the ER if I got severe pain, though. So far, though, since then i've not had any severe episodes, only a few times of mild brief pain. So I dont know, maybe something with the liver might be another possibility.
