Health Ins HIGH DEDUCTIBLE plan being forced on us nxt yr!

Got a word from email and then a letter in the mail at work.. I have had good insurance up untill now.. I pay a large premium to have an EPO.. I can go to any doctor... 35.00 co pay and its 15 for prescriptions... Well for blood work or surgery its 80 percent and I pay 20 percent.. not too bad.. 100 to go to the ER... well all that is changing... The bank I work for came up way over budget so they are cutting back on EVERYTHING.. INCLUDING OUR HEALTH CARE.. I have a husband who is a student and fairly healthy.. Has high cholosteral but NEVER goes to the doctor... THen there is me.. y'all know what that means... Cellcept alone is like 1200 BUCKS last time I looked... so the new plan has a HIGH deductible. If I cover my husband them I have to meet a family deductible before my stupid employer will start covering 75 percent and I cover the rest.. that deductible is 4400! If it were just me then It would be 1100 that I would pay out of my pocket before the 75 percent kicks in from my company.. and in order for them to pay 100 percent of all my insurance I have to meet 2200 out of pocket... The problem is that the amount comming out of each check they say is soooo low.. yes it would be low if it were just me.. like 50.00 but now I pay about 140.00 every two weeks for me and hubby. Going with the new plan I would have to pay 100.00 a pay check for the high deductible health plan.. so wooopee that saves me 80.00 a month.. that wont cover anything. My prescriptions are going to be so expensive.. Me not having insurance is not an option but is it horrible of me to ask my husband to look for some student health insurance at the University... untill he can get a real job and start covering me.. or do I bite the big one and cover him because HE IS my responsibility??? What do I do??? Sooo confused and lost.. He feels so badly too.. I dont make alot of money so it will kill me... ANyone have a high deductible plan???? HELP HELP HELP

I am sorry to hear this change. It indeed is such a ripped off. I thought my previous student health insurance was high deductible already, and it wasn't. Anyway, I would suggest your hubby to look into the health insurance at the University, because sometimes they have a pretty good package.

Yea I am suggesting to my husband that he should look into health insurance at the U. He just started Graduate School so who knows when he will finish and ultimatly he is healthy so he doesnt need the coverage I do... anyway.. thanks for your input...

$280 mth + $4400 deductible for a family? try $708 mth + $2500 deductable for one person! although mine seems to give me free meds *before* I meet the deductible? It's crazy how it all works, huh?

yea it sure is crazy how it all works... Its just crazy.. The more I think about it though.. the more I feel compelled to cover my husband nomatter what the cost... For better or for worse right? Yea its just money... but he has so much on his plate being a Graduate student... and I dont know.. Just feeling more and more that I should just cover him... maybe I will win the lottery!!! LOL!!

Oh brother... That sucks Steph.  You all need to move up here to Canada and use our healthcare system.  $32 bucks a month, everything is taken care of except the drugs and ambulance trips.  I'm pretty lucky.  My hubby's insurance plan pays for 80% of my meds.  I don't have anything that costs what you have to pay though. UGH, that is brutal.

 

Steph, you have to do what you have to do.  If it means getting your hubby to find a plan for students, DO IT.  Do whatever you have to to make sure you get your meds.  Sit down and brainstorm, we will too!  Can you double up your coverage by both of you getting a plan?  I wish I knew the U.S. "stuff".  I don't have a lot of advice for you except that.  Sorry! I know this is stressful.  I don't know how you guys do it every month.  Even with my meds, I pay out of pocket about $200 a month.  That's nothing.  I can't imagine how I'd be able to make ends meet shelling out thousands.  I'd be homeless... UGH. Depressing, okay, enough of that.
