Lupus related to Crohns?

My mother has Crohns – another autoimmune disease.   Just wondering if anyone else has had this hereditary link as well?   This is the only connection the docs can link to my Lupus diagnosis as far as family history.        ~Jenny

The exact reason why a person gets lupus it's know. They say that people who have lupus may have an additional auto immune disease like Crohns. Is it hereditary from your mom is truly unknown. Did you get the lupus cause she has crohns disease I don't know. I know for awhile when I had my colon removed and continued to have "GI" issues they thought I may have crohns disease. Of course I don't have crohns but my doctors were all saying it's common to have more than one AI disease at a time.

My younger brother has Crohn's and had Ulcerative Colitis (total colectomy). My father's side has TONS of AI diseases; cancer, RA, diabetes, MS, Lupus, Crohns/colitis...you name it! My former supervisor has lupus and Crohn's. There definitely seems to be a connection. Judy

Yes, there is a common genetic link between Crohn's and Lupus and many other autoimmune diseases. Those who are diagnosed with both need to make sure that their gastrointestinal symptoms are not from Gastroenteric Lupus...it can be difficult to tell them apart.

HI,

I have Severe Systemic Lupus and Sjogrens. My brother was diagnosed seven years prior to me with Chrohn's disease. We were both twenty-nine. He manages it but has not had to have major surgery thank goodness. I believe there is a connection.

Hi, Jenny. My dad has Crohn's disease and I have both SLE and Sjogren's. From all the reading I've done, I think they know there is some genetic link but have not exactly pin-pointed it yet. I've noticed a lot of people that have one kind of AI disease, that other types of AI disease run in their families.

To answer the question, in a previous note my daughter has lupus,  I have had reaccurant clotting disorder Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia purpura ( my daughter has APS, a clotting disorder) I also have Crohns.  I have a postive ANA with speckled patterm, but not so symptomatic as my daughter or diagnosed.  I have a Aunt with Ehlers Danlos a rare connective tissure disease.  I also had a aunt with M.S.

So it really makes you think there is a connection in between auto-ammune diseases.

My dad has Crohn's so I'm guessing that is where my AI genetic link comes from....no one on my mother's side has AI problems.

Im 41 yrs old and was diagnosed with Lupus 4 yrs ago. I have a 12 yr old daughter that was diagnosed with Chrons Disease 1 1/2 yr ago. I think that their is a definate Link between the two.
