Found to be low in DHEA-Here I go...

Hi all!

There was a post not to long ago about DHEA, has it ever done any good for those of us with Lupus. From what I remember, not to many people took it. Well the doctor just called and mine is very low so she called me a prescription in. 25 mgs. taken two times a day. I'm going to try it and see what happens. If I don't like what it's doing or the way I feel I can always stop, right?

Aggie, it sounds like your doc is on top of things by checking your DHEA levels before suggesting you take it. I'm not a medical preson at all, but it would make more sense to take it if you are low on it and I have also read that a prescript ion for DHEA is much better than getting it over the counter. I really hope you have good luck with it. I have been on the verge of trying it several times, but always chickened out. I'll be rally eager to see how it goes for you. Do you have any idea how long it is supposed to be before you might notice any difference?

That was the only question I didn't ask! I totally forgot to ask about the time to notice anything..I take one 25 mg tablet every 12 hours and I didn't notice any yucky taste like the prednisone or the Plaquenil which are the worst tasting meds I've ever had!

I'll update in a few days and let everyone know how it goes..everything I read so far about it has been good which is nice for a change. A lot of people have had luck with taking it, I hope I 'm one of them..

I used to take and it helped with the fatigue. It also helped with my energy levels. I did not notice any side effects and it took about two weeks for me to really note any major differences. It could take longer on other people. I am taking it now to help keep stable on energy but since I am a more active flare the benefit is not as noticable.

Some of the thyroid sites have a lot of info about DHEA and how successful it was for them and what other endocrine problems might caue uou to be deficient in DHEA about.coms thyroid site ls a good place for info. They do every type of endo problem. Take care, I may be trying it myself sometime in the future.
