Sick again- PREDNISONE TAPER QUESTION

My husband picked up a nasty bacterial infection at work. He got antibiotics but not soon enough because I have it now. It is miserable. I had started my wean on the prednisone Saturday. I opted not to go back up because it has taken so long to be able to begin this. I am on 7.5 right now, I was on 10. I think I will have to stay at 7.5 for a few extra days instead of just a week. We are doing a steady but fairly quick taper because of how bad my water retention and blood pressure have become since going up to 10mg. There is also the increased risk of premature rupture of my water if I am on it much longer. If I feel much better Saturday I will continue the wean as planned and go down to 5mg but right now I am not sure I will feel that much better. Though truth be told I am much better today than Wednesday and I only began antibiotics Wednesday. I just don't know how this will go. Have any of you gotten an infection while in the middle of a taper? I was wondering because I know it is vital I get off the prednisone as soon as possible, but I don't want a flare up or to make myself sicker.

redrose, I'm sorry to hear that you caught your husband's infection, especially with you trying to taper and with you being pregnant. I think anytime we get sick it's hard to keep tapering. I know for me, anytime I get sick it causes my lupus symptoms to get worse and I would have a hard time tapering prednisone during that time. It sounds like you have a lot of other health issues to consider though, such as water retention, blood pressure and the safety of your baby. Just stay in close contact with your docs through this and let them know you are having some trouble tapering and see what they say. Is everything sill going okay with your pregnancy? Get lots of rest and keep us updated. Take care

Ironically the blood pressure is the only real problem this pregnancy. Every other time I have had specific problems like clockwork this time not a single one of them has happened this far. In 7 weeks we will see just how many of the problems I have had in the past we can avoid since that is when I go into preterm labor. I am feeling much better this afternoon, the sore throat is gone though my voice is weird still, unfortunately I am coughing up nasty stuff that really makes me feel sick to my stomach.

Redrose, I'm hoping by now you are feeling better and keeping you and baby in my thoughts and prayers for NO premature labor and a great delivery with a wonderful new baby.

Tomorrow I go down to 5mg. I still have residual sinus issues and may end up needing a totally different antibiotic but we will see. I saw the high risk doctors today and so far so good. I am still on seriously restricted activity but what the hey, I can deal with that. At least it isn't strict bedrest. I am really tired lately but that goes with being 6 months pregnant. Yep, I am officially 6 month along as of today (translation 22 weeks). 10 weeks until the baby will be fine but need a few weeks in the hospital if I deliver and 13 weeks until the baby would come home right away if I deliver. So just over 3 months and I think I can handle that just fine.
