Did you guys miss out?

On my great story about the hospital stay last week, where I went in for syncope and arrhythmia and came out after a botched a Foley catheter? Yeah, that didn't go so well...went in with EKG changes and fainting, left with a UTI and a very grumpy affect. At least I'm not fainting anymore, that's always a good thing. My nephrologist visited me at the hospital (such a nice doc!) and offered to do all the testing while I was an inpatient, but after I got screwed over by the staff one too many times I decided to do it all as an outpatient and take the chance that it might take longer to figure it all out. I think they didn't like the fact that I was trying to help them do their jobs in the least intrusive way possible ("No, I don't need a neurology consult...nope, don't need a stress test at this time...okay, you can take my vitals while I am screaming bloody murder if you want, or you could wait ten minutes until they give me some Demerol!")

If only my nephrologist lived at that hospital, it might have been a better experience!

He did do an ultrasound and my kidneys appear normal there - yay, no polycystic kidneys! The next step is actually completing a 24-hour urine and then going back in two weeks to talk about the possibility of a biopsy. He said he would do it if we need to, but doesn't want to dive in there without a good reason (always a bonus). Meanwhile, my urine is darker and cloudier than ever, I swear it's like peeing butterscotch syrup out of there sometimes (collective "eww" expected). Okay, back to the grind for my test tomorrow!

I am sorry you continue to have health problems. I couldn't imagine being in medical school healthy, let alone with alot of unresolved medical issues. You obviously have alot of strength and determination.

Sorry to hear your hospital visit was so bad. but I am glad to hear you have a great nephrologist. My neph who took care of me for the past 5 years was like that, caring and concerned. Unfortunately, he moved several states away and the one that took his place is just the opposite. It makes you appreciate a caring doctor even more. Hope all works out well for you and that you are feeling a little better. Thanks for keeping us updated, I look forward to the answer to your health puzzle.
