Question about urine and kidneys- update with the results

Okay, so I have been doing a 24hr urine. Thing is that no matter what I drink the urine is rather dark. Worse, there is stuff in it- little black bits. I have never seen this before. It has me a bit worried. I was spilling protein on Friday (+1 I think is what they said). Now I have to fight to turn the darned thing in because the idiots in L&D said the lab is open Sunday when it isn't.

That is odd about the black bits?  I don't have an answer for you on that one, but the dark color is probably a sign of infection or protein (which you know you have).  I did a 24 hour urine a few months ago and turned out I couldn't hand it in on the weekend either.  So I was told to keep it in the fridge.  Gross, yes.  But as long as it stays cold, it will still be a useful sample when you hand it in on Monday.

 

Hope this helps.  I'd be interested to know what the black bits are.

Well, the lab actually was open- their phone message has not been changed though so you wouldn't know it unless you came in and tried to do lab work. The results will be in the computer tomorrow so I will call my dr's office and ask for the results just to be sure the doctors look at it ASAP. I have no clue on the black bits but I do know it wasn't lint.

redrose, I hope you get your results today. I always hated waiting for my 24 hr urine results - for some reason it always seemed to take forver. Let us know what you find out. Take care

Bad news in, my 24hr protein was high. According to the OB office in a normal woman they don't worry unless it gets higher than mine is, but with the symptoms of a lupus flare beginning and this test, added to my low back pain and the black bits in my urine I am very afraid. Can anyone offer any advice? I know I am at the point where they can deliver the baby if they need to, but I also know that they keep pushing my body because they want to make 39 weeks. I just want me and baby to come out of this okay.

Apparently I get to do a 24hr urine every week and if it goes up to a certain level they will immediately induce. My kidney function blood work is fine but it doesn't stop me worrying.

Oh girl, I am sooo sorry to hear that. But please DO NOT stress yourself out you know that only makes lupus worse. I will say extra prayers for you and baby until you are out of the woods. Just think happy thoughts and relax and rest, that is the best thing you can do, and I am guessing right now that is only thing you can do. (((HUGS)))

Well, so far we are in holding mode. But that may change with the 24hr urine I am turning in later today. I am spilling traces of blood in my urine as well as protein. We will see Tuesday morning at the latest if this changes anything.

Greetings, Redrose. I just read through this post today and , at first, I thought that your darker urine was, possibly, blood. Then, when you said you had dark spots I thought about kidney stones. You have been having low back pain, right? Did anyone say anything about small kidney stones? Just a thought...

I hope all of this clears up for you so you can enjoy the last part of your pregnancy!

The black bits have stopped but a quick urine dip showed I am spilling blood.
