Rheumy Appt today...Vasculitis?

Hi Everyone,

   I have had vasculitis on my legs before with no other symptoms until now. Last week I started getting severe fatigue, shortness of breath, joint and muscle pain, fevers, light-headed, coughing, ear aches, stomach problems, nasal stuffiness....sounds like the flu..huh... :-) . The normal Lupus stuff, but something just didn't feel right to me.

   When I saw my rheumy today after I told her all my symptoms she started checking my joints and stuff out and looked at my legs and ask how long I had the rash? I told her about a week or so and she said that was Vasculitis and was causing all the symptoms. I didn't even pay attention to the rash before she mentioned it because I've had it before with no problems. She gave me a shot of Medrol, took some blood and started me on a 30mgs taper and wants me to call her if I start feeling worse or no better.

    What are your experiences with vasculitis internally? Does it clear up with Prednisone quickly? I'm not worried just curious and would love to hear other experiences.

   Thank you both for the thoughts and prayers, hugs and tea. You are both so kind and supportive.

    I didn't sleep much last night due to being pumped up on the medrol with jitters...lol. I start the 30mg taper today and I know I will be alot more jittery with the pills.

    You both take care and thank you again. You both are in my thoughts and prayers as well.

Babs, I'm sorry your feeling so poorley. Just wanted you to know your in my thoughts and prayers.Hope it clears up fast and you get thru the pred without to many problems.((((((hugs))))))

Hi Babs,

 

I have vasculitis too.  I am just coming out of a big old lupus flare up as well.  I was on 20mg of pred to get rid of my symptoms - all of them exactly as what you described yours as being.  Feels like the flu, but you know it's not!

 

With my vasculitis, the symptoms are those splinter hemhorrages on my nails (little brown lines on the ends of your fingernails), petechiae (little tiny pin sized red dots on arms, legs, chest, tummy, etc), and under the skin type rash called Livido reticularis. I have that on my wrist, thigh and ankle. The skin rash stuff is really common with vasculitis.  Did you get a name for the type of rash you have?  What does it look like?  Mine is sort of "lace" looking and mottled. Hard to describe.

 

I'm noticing the rash not being as purple as it was a few days ago, but it never fully goes away. Even when my lupus was in remission, I could see it slightly. 

 

I hope this helps.  The medrol pack should help you feel better quickly.  I'm on so much prednisone right now that I'm a wigged-out, jittery, anxious, mess!!!  I need to start tapering down - NOW!  So give it a few days and hopefully the flu like feeling will disappear.

Ginny, You are so knowledgeable Sis! I have the petechiae rash(red/purplish dots) on my lower legs, feet and a few dots here and there in other areas. I have had some swelling in the lower legs and ankles lately as well.  I'm glad yours is clearing up and hope the taper goes well and relieves the jitters/anxiousness quickly...((Hugs)). (((( Babs )))) the only experience I have with vasculitis is in my gut and of course that's what causes all of my GI problems or at least that's what my rheumy thinks it is (I still don't understand fully how it affects me). When I'm in a flare my gut is almost always involved along with most of the symptoms you have been having. I've never had to take Medrol thus far so I can't offer any advise, I just wait it out, try to get more rest than usual and hope it passes soon!

    I have a EGD/Colon scheduled for the 19th. It is time for my routine check and with the stomach issues I've been having the last few months I'm ready for it. Just hate the nasty gallon jug of Colyote!!!
