Saralynn I have had thyroid problems long before I was diagnosed with Lupus. My thyroids go out of whack so many times that I can't tell when they are at the right level. Right now the level is very high so my dosage is being reduced. The symptons that I was experiencing this time was wieght loss very quickly, a feeling that I just wanted to crawl out of my skin, my mind wouldn't shut off, and I was so tired, worse then normal. Hopefully the symptons will slow down soon.
Once you get on medication make sure you continue with blood work every month to keep an eye on the levels. Once it levels out it is still advisable to have it checked every couple of months. With me it took a long time to get a dosage that was close to what I needed and it keeps changing.
Good luck, it can be a long haul, but once it gets where it should be you should start to notice in how you are feeling.
