Calcified Tissue & Flexor Tenosynovitis??

Hi everyone, long time!

I was wondering if anyone had any experience or advice about either or both of these problems pls? I woke monday morning with severe pain and reduced mobility in my right wrist. no injury had been done to it. my wrist seemed "locked" and unable to move backwards. The area where the wrist joins the hand, the little round bone under the little finger ?? is red, hot to the touch and unbearable to touch. I went to the local walk in centre who did an xray. the nurse, doctor & radiologist discussed the xray and showed me some"calcified" tissue. they sent me to another hospital to see a rheumatologist. he said i had flexor tenosynovitis and gave me a steroid injection in the tendon. i have to ring my lupus rheumy later in the week. my concerns are the lack of interest in the calcification? the first hospital seemed really concerned. my pain has worsened since the injection, is this normal? are either of these to do with lupus? i can't drive, have to rest and i'm thoroughly depressed, sorry aout the long post (which took me forever with my left hand!)

This sounds so incredibly painful (((hugs))) to you. I hope the shot they gave you begins to work in the fext few hours. I just wanted you to know that I saw your post and I can relate to the pain you're having. I had an wrist that locked up on me and I ended getting injections in my wrist for several months. I hope that you're injections begin to work soon. Hang in there Lion no that we're pulling for you.

Lion, I'm having a similar problem minus the pain and heat. I have a hard partial ring at my wrist under where my pinkie is and my pnkie and ring fingers are curled under and difficult to straighten. I'm also having problems making my hand go flat and back toward me. I never noticed it. The worst of my tightness is further up on my arm, where I thought it was muscle tightness, its like the skin fused to the muscle and it is all hard.

I went out to the scleroderma site to see if I had some other symptoms and they had many pictures of hands and wrists in all phases of the disease, mild and local to advanced. They say heat and pain are part of ra, not scleroderma, but they frequently use xrays to show calcification in scleroderma. Some doctors talk about scleroderma limited to the hand or hands and wrists, while others go up to the elbow.

I didn't look up ra, the site at scleroderma.org has lots of info on both. My stiffness has gotten better with an increase of plaquenil and my rheumie does not seem very concerned about it, more like a "hum, that's curious" kind of attitude, though I know he is taking note.

Perhaps its just something that comes and goes, or is part of sjogrens. I don't know. I was just scared so I went out the the scleroderma site to look at the pictures and read about it.

I was told by the scleroderma people to exercise it, and I did and it did get better, but I had no heat or swelling and I wouldn't exercise it if I did.

I hope you can see the doc soon and maybe bring your xrays or at least reading so you can show him what you are concerned about. I found that really helps because they just don't seem to really look sometimes, usually because they are constantly interrupted when not with patients, I used to work in a drs office so I don't blame them, unless you sit there with them and make them look.

Try not to worry. the heat and pain may be a really good sign that it is something that will go away.
