hi Gang, long time to see :-)

Hope you're all well.

I just wanted to know if anyone found that their PMS, perimenopause and or menopause was intensified because of their lupus.

My dx is unclear still because of my lyme dx, but my rheum is still treating me as a lupus dx.

Does anyone get the mouth sores just at their period as well.

Hey Jen,

 

Oh yes, I think we all can say that our lupus is more active during PMS.  Lupus is very much controlled by our hormones.  My doctor gave me a cocktail of vitamins and minerals to help with the PMS.  I take these every day.  250mg - B6, 500mg - magnesium, 2000mg - calcium, 1400mg - vitamin D.  It works. Or at least takes the edge off!  But talk to your doctor first before adding anything to your regime.

 

I've never gotten mouth sores.

Absolutely. Our cycles actually affect any inflammatory condition. Sorry sis. Blessings!

Jen, I definitely noticed my lupus being affected by my cycle - my symptoms flare up during PMS and my PMS has also gotten worse since getting lupus - irritability, etc. I also found out in March that lupus had depleted some of my hormones and now that I'm on a compounded hormone cream, I've noticed that my fatigue is somewhat better and my PMS symptoms are not as bad either. Both my rheumy and my pcp told me that hormone levels are hard to read on labs, but fortunately my pcp seems to know a lot about it because he's the one who caught it - my rheumy admitted he didn't know enough about it to interpret the lab results that my pcp sent to him.

Just wanted to second what everyone else said. My cycles definitely cause a worsening of the lupus. I am approaching 50 years old and I also notice it getting worse as I age -undoubtedly menopause rearing it's lovely head.
