weird red stockings!

I have noticed for the last few days from mid calf down, on both legs is red.  They are not warm to touch, there is no pain, but they are very, very red.  Has anyone had this before?  I wonder if it has something to do with the dialysis?  I'm stumped!

I do have some good news.  I'm going to be switching to a new kind of dialysis, called Peritoneal Dialysis, that I can do at home!  I will not have to go to clinic for 4 hour sessions/3 days a week.  There are no needles involved.  NO fluid restrictions, which I hate!  And I'll have freedom to travel and do what I want!  I'm really excited about it.  It is also less stressful on your heart and body in the long term  It takes a few weeks to get set up, so hopefully by mid December i'll be doing it!  Yay!  Well, i'm off to dialysis now! Hi Judy. It's good to hear you'll be able to switch dialysis. I know December can't get here soon enough for ya. As for the redness, have you worn any new socks, compression stockings, etc recently? You might have developed an allergy. I hope your dialysis went okay today. Love, Butterflake

Judy . . . how will they address it? Antibiotics? They are waiting till tomorrow?? Judy . . . I'm sorry you are dealing with yet another issue. I'm just puzzled how an infection ended up in both feet/lower legs at the same time. It sounds like it may be systemic. Although I know little about celluitis . . . it just seems odd that its identical in both feet. BUT . . . I'm so glad that they have it figured out and they are comfortable addressing it tomorrow. Makes it sound like its not a medical emergency. Although it seems like it should be. I hope you'll keep us posted. Chicken soup for you!! Blessings!

((((( Judy )))))) I'm sorry . . . I thought cellulitis was always an infection. Its great if it isn't. But glad you noticed that you had a fever so the doc can check things out. I bet they'll get some bloodwork too. Your post explains why it is in both legs though. I'll watch for your update after the doc sees you. Blessings!

Well, I found out at dialysis yesterday, Dr. Creighton came by, and said it is Not cellulitis, it is a lupus flare causing a skin reaction. I recently dropped down to 5mg of prednison, went off of cellcept and imuran. She put me back on the imuran. I kind of thought in the back of my mind it may be a flare because, i'm mostly running fever at night and i've been real tired.

Rosie, I think cellulitis is inflammation, but it can be caused by several different factors.

Ginny, I will let you know about the new dialysis. I see the surgeon today that will insert the tube into the peritoneum for the dialysis. I also see the surgeon today who will do the second part of my fistula in my arm for a back up dialysis in the event that I get an infection for something!

(((((( Judy ))))))) I know exactly what you mean about helping. I usually volunteer to make things that I can actually (at least partially) make ahead of time. I have make ahead pie dough recipe and some meals that freeze well. Is there something you could make ahead of time??? I think we do such a good job of accepting our losses and our limitations that when one more thing is yanked from us it is just too hard to accept. I really feel for you. I just got a bit of good news when I got home from dialysis! The docs have decided to cancel for this Monday and do everything on the 24th! Yes! Now, I only have to get put under once and I can do my usual stufff for the church dinner! Thank You Jesus!!!! Judy
