Reglan and Parkinson's

Hi everyone,

I take reglan 10mg three times a day and I just remembered my last rheumy wanted me to try to get by on twice a day because there was evidence that too much reglan could lead to developing parkinson's. I looked it up on the net and there are articles on the subject, but who do you believe? and how much is too much? I have been on reglan (same dosage)for over two years. I don't see my rheumy til the end of the month and I was curious if anyone else had heard of there being a link between reglan and parkinson's?

Hi Donna, What is the Reglan prescribed for? IF it 'can' cause Parkinsons . . . is that temporary? Does the Parkinson's disappear after discontinued use of the Reglan? Some things I'd want to know to help decide how to move forward. Keep us posted!! Blessings!

The prescribing information for Reglan lists as a side effect "symptoms similar to those of Parkinson's." In terms of "who to believe" the preponderance of evidence shows that Reglan can and has caused Parkinson's type symptoms in some people. Usually these symtpoms disappear once the medication is stopped. It can take weeks to months for all of the symptoms to disappear. There are studies that show some elderly people with medication induced Parkinson's have had the symptoms persist for years.

I don't know what you are taking the Reglan for...is there a different medication you could take in its place?
