Blood in Urine...HELP!

Hey everyone...I have a few questions. Yesterday i was walking around Target and out of the middle of no where when I breathed in I had a sharp stabbing pain in my back near my left shoulder blade. The pain is only when I breath in, caugh, or laugh. My Doc upped my dosage of prednisone thinking it is plureisy caused by inflamtion.

Last night I was in so much pain I couldn't even roll over in bed or pull up my covers. I can not describe the amount of pain I was in. It has been happening more often and I am starting to get worried about my Lupus getting worse.

Now about the subject...I noticed about 3-4 days ago my urine was a little brown but didnt think much about it. Well then the past few times I have gone P today, it is obvious that it is blood in my urine. The last time I P'd the water was a smokey brown color. I don't have any stomach pain and there is no pain when I P. The only other thing that might be helpful is when I have to P I better find a bathroom quick or I will be introuble. (That has been going on for about 2 months.) Does anyone have any advice at what this could be? Should I call my doctor or wait until my apt on the 13th of January?

Hi aimsgirl! Whenever I have blood in my urine it is usually from a kidney stone or a kidney infection. I would recommend going to the doctor about this. Having blood in your urine is not good. Please go to a doctor right away. I don't mean to make you panic but you might prevent further problems by having a doc look at this as soon as possible!

Hi Aimsgirl,

I agree, having blood in your urine is not a good thing. Normally patients do not have pain associated with kidney disease, they typically find out by their doctors performing lab work or when they begin to notice blood in their urine, things of this nature. I do not mean to scare you either, but it is much better to call your doc and have it checked and be on the safe side. It could be something as simple as kidney stones, just never know until you have it checked.

See a doctor right away...even go to the ER.

Lupus attacks the kidneys and do not ignore the symptoms or wait for treatment.  It is typically a condition called proteinuria but it could be something else.  Visible blood in your urine is nothing to be patient about.  You should see a nephrologist as soon as you can.

I agree with Bill. Get into see someone ASAP. Blood in the urine is not good, especially brown blood. I don't want to alarm you, but you need to get checked out and not wait until your scheduled appointment. Please let us know what you find out.

I peed blood on Nov 27. I've always had trace amounts of blood in my urine samples, but never could I see it.

I went right to a clinic, did a urine test and there was no infection. I did have pain in my back, but not bad enough to warrent a stone.
I peed blood only for that day but my back hurt for weeks.
The clinic was clueless so I went to see my rheum last week and I did some tests. I don't suspect they will find anything so I will assume it was some sort of inflammation.

get to a Dr to check it out anyway
