Puffy Eyelids....

Hope all is well. I have been a member for a while but have been MIA. I have been having this issue for a little over a year now where my eyelids will swell for now good reason at all. Its usually the right one more than the left but I have had times when both were swollen at the same time. I have gone to my rheumy who has said it has nothing to do w my kidneys, have gone to an ENT who also did a CAT scan and has said that my sinuses and nose look perfectly clear. I have gone to an allergist who has concluded that I do not have any allergies. So... It remains. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this eye swelling or what I can do about it? Everything else seems stable (I was diagnosed Nov 30, 2005 and have been treated w Plaquenil ever since). Any advice???

Make an appointment with your oncologist. It could be something serisous like tumors or necrotizing gramultous inflamation. The only smptom I had for my eye problems was my eyelid swollen shut. Took a biopsy and that is when I had been diagnosed with Wegener's, Necrotizing Gramultous Inflamation and tumors in my eye. Never listed the tumors, as I'm getting them treated.

I had this problem as a child/young adult, my eyelds would swell shut, especially at night, crust over and rip out my eyelashes trying to open them.I had to soak them with a warm wet washcloth until the crusts loosened and the puffiness got better. It was called blepharitis and considered to be benign, though now I still have swollen eyelids and have a lot of gallium uptake in my eyes, possible infection, cancer, sarcoid, other. The thyroid can make the eyelids swell alot too.

Definitely worth getting checked out. The gallium scan is sort of like PET scan, they inject you with radioactive dye and it shows infections and cancers due to uptake of gallium. They suspectedme of a granulomatous disease like Wegeners, I had active TB and am undergoing treatment for it but it also affects the eyes and causes granulomatous changes.

The burning and swelling Weleetka describes reminds me of sjogrens, which I also have,where the eyes are really dry, then they get really irritated. There are eyedrops the rheumy or eye doc can prescribe and Evoxac helps a little.
